Vehicle Detail
1974 Porsche 914 1.7L Targa/Convertible This car is beautiful, fun and fast. Starts up and drives smooth. This Porsche is so smooth! Great for the classic car enthusiast or the hipsters who want to look like a secret agent from the 70's. This is a serious head turner. Engine is strong, transmission shifts nicely, and it corners/handles excellently. I would love to hold on to this car but I have other obligations. The Good Stuff – Strong engine, smooth transmission. New tires, brakes are ok. Targa top in good shape, rubber and latches all there. The seats are not ripped, look and feel good. The Paint is shiny, not new or perfect, but a very nice look. All lights work, headlights, turn signals, fog lights, brake lights, headlights pop up like they should. Glass is all there, no cracks, beautiful midnight tint job – you can't see in. The floor, engine compartment, “hell hole”, trunks and under have all been fiberglassed – hard as a rock. The rust issues on the 914 are usually bad – with the fiberglass job, the main places on this car have been dealt with nicely. Nice stock wheels, windows rolls up and down as they should. Porsche upgraded rear logo reflector. Steering is tight. Body is straight, front/rear fenders look great – no rust, no dents, no noticeable scratches. Accelerates quick, hits 60mph in a few seconds. I was on I-75 this weekend going 90 mph with plenty left to go. You won't find a better starting point for a full restoration than this car. The Not so Good Stuff – Emergency brake cable is broken (new one comes with the deal). Windshield wipers, emergency flashers don't work (I think its a fuse?). Interior Heater doesn't turn on, this may be a fuse as well. Radio doesn't work, may not be hooked up, I don't know. Battery is waning. Don't have a clue what current milage is. It has an oil leak (most vintage VW/Porsche engines do). It is currently running on 3 cylinders (mechanic says it could need a spark plug or maybe a wire). I'm not a gear head so I found this to be amazing, because its so strong and fast like it is. It could use minor adjustments to engine/transmission – runs strong but a tune-up would make it fantastic. The REALLY Good – This deal comes with an EXTRA engine AND and EXTRA transmission. The last owner said both of these work and that there is nothing wrong with them. ALSO I have 2 large tubs of extra parts to go with it. The original carpet comes with it. Many of the parts are worth $$$. So, you get a beautiful 914 that looks great, drives strong AND you get a garage full of parts to go with it. If you're looking for something to turn into a show car or a race car this is the one. I would LOVE to keep it, but I just can't. My loss your gain. All in all, these Porsche 914's are becoming one of the most sought after Classic's on the market today! With great looks and huge collect-ability, this would be a wonderful opportunity for someone to not only have a part of history but an appreciating Asset!! Please email or call with any questions. On Apr-28-12 at 10:40:42 PDT, seller added the following information: Ive been asked technical questions about the car. Not being a mechanic Im trying to describe as best I can. The engine runs and is drivable, I'm sure, as stated, that if your going to make this vehicle into a daily driver or show car you will make needed adjustments to the engine to make it run and sound perfect. It was perfect 39 years ago when it was new:) now it needs work. The perfects 914's today are in the 15k and up price range. Believe me when I say that this car is worth every penny. The fantastic thing about this is the extra engine/transmission/parts giving you the parts and ability to have an excellent engine. I would love to restore this beauty to its former glory but I can't at this time. My loss your gain.
