Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a beautiful 1971 Triumph TR6, a true classic and collectable British sports car. The early years of the TR6 had the higher compression engine and were devoid of the rubber extensions on the bumpers. James May (of BBC Top Gear fame), referring to the TR6, said “The TR6 is the blokiest, blokes car.” With its chiseled good looks, robust straight six engine, 4 speed transmission, and fully independent suspension, it was one of the 1970s “hairy-chested” sports cars. Also part of the visual appeal is the interior with the large Smiths guages set the beautiful French walnut dash. The TR6 had a long and successful racing career. It won many races including the 1975 and 1976 SCCA D Production National Championships, the later with Paul Newman as driver (this was his first national championship). Many owners are still enjoying racing these cars today in historic/vintage SCCA racing. One element of this restoration that I am very pleased with is the performance suspension ($3,700). The work was done by British Cars Limited (see restoration list), and the results are incredible. The ride is firm without being harsh. The handling is very precise and neutral. I have driven many sports cars and this is one the best handling, period. The rubber door seals are there and functional, but have a few small cracks. The chrome on the rear bumper is OK but not perfect. The radio speakers need to be installed. At first start up there is sometimes a brief sqeek from the throw-out bearing and then it is warm and silent. The body is perfect and the paint is great. This car is solid and totally reliable. I would trust it for a cross-country trip anytime. The engine runs strong and gear shifts are smooth and crisp. On a country road, with the top down, listening to the throaty snarl of the 2.5 liter straight six...well it doesn’t get much better. I really love this TR6. I do not want to sell it, but I must. I know that the future owner will be very happy with this classic sports car. I have receipts. Please email or call if you have any questions. rmaxey@utk.edu (865) 898-6585 RESTORATION LIST1971 Triumph TR6 - (71,200 mi.). ALWAYS GARAGED ENGINE: 8.5 compression ratio head.
