Vehicle Detail
This comprehensively restored 1967 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow MPW FHC (Mulliner Park Ward Fixed Head Coupe), CRX1349, is 1 of 602 “coach built” by Mulliner for the entire world between 1967 to 1971 and is 1 of 199 LHD models produced, fewer of which exist today. The Silver Shadow MPW FHC is historically significant it is predecessor that spawned the world renowned Corniche and is the model of Rolls-Royce driven by actor Steve McQueen in “The Thomas Crown Affair”. This exceptional example has had the good fortune of long-term ownership by passionate enthusiast who had it maintained to a “no expensive spared” standard for over 20 years by Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club National Tech Advisor and Instructor John Palma of Palma Classic Cars in Audubon, NJ. Silver Shadow MPW FHCs are rarely are rarely found in the pristine state this example is in as one can easily spend 3 times their current market value to restore a “driver” with tired cosmetics and mechanicals to the pristine standard this example is in. I’ll now detail and illustrate the phenomenal condition of this Silver Shadow MPW FHC: Exterior: The body was stripped to bare-metal and refinished in Tudor Red Glasurit paint to a top-quality standard approximately four years ago. The undercarriage was also stripped and refinished in black. Cosmoline rust-preventative fluid was comprehensively applied throughout for ultimate protection against corrosion. A new Everflex roof and weather-stripping was installed at this time as well. I will happily provide a link to an extensive online photo portfolio to interested parties who provide me with an email address to help illustrate how spectacular the exterior truly is. Interior: The appearance and condition of the interior is another outstanding aspect of this fine motorcar. The front seats were reupholstered approximately 4 years ago in the correct leather and the original rear seats and interior door panels were re-dyed to match. New front and rear seat belts have been installed, which are correctly attached to the original mounting plates. Both the interior and trunk have newer top-quality Wilton wool carpet this is pristine. The interior wood facia and door caps appear to be largely original and have the patina one would expect wood of this vintage to have. All interior lights, seat controls, and switches work. All four window motors have been replaced and even the rear window transmission motors have been rebuilt. Unlike most Silver Wraith MPW FHCs, this one is equipped with air-conditioning, which has been comprehensively overhauled and blows cold. Engine/Transmission: The original 6.2L engine is beautifully detailed and offers outstanding performance. Palma Classic Cars performed an extensive and expensive engine modification during the restoration to accommodate a newer style valley pan (no oil leaks) and replaced the points-style ignition system to Pertronix electronic ignition for superior performance and reliability. Palma Classic Cars performed a full-engine service with a new water pump approximately four months ago. The transmission has completely rebuilt and resealed by Palma Classic Cars and performs flawlessly. Suspension/Brakes: The entire braking, hydraulic, and suspension systems were completely overhauled by Palma Classic Cars approximately 4 years ago, which involved rebuilding or replacing all accumulator balls, accumulator valves, accumulator micro-switches, brake calipers, brake hoses, and shocks. The front suspension system has been converted to a fixed, non-leveling configuration whereas the rear suspension retains its original configuration. The system was bleed with new RR363 fluid approximately four months ago. Correct, expensive, and top-of-the-line Coker wide whitewall tires were installed four months ago, which provide an excellent ride. Summary: This 1967 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow MPW FHC is an incredible opportunity for a collector/enthusiast who desires the best and understands that a “turn key” example that is ready to be enjoyed will be the most rewarding and least expensive to own over time.
