Vehicle Detail

Good-condition 1965 Scout 80 with removable half-cab hardtop. So much fun drive--especially with the top off. Very solid and dependable. Great camping rig. I am the fourth owner of this truck; it is originally from eastern Oregon and Idaho. I have been told that the odometer reading (showing 56K miles) is accurate. This is the last year of the Scout 80 and also the last year with the fold-down windshield. I bought it last summer and immediately removed the top. Engine/Transmission: This Scout has the 154 cubic inch, 4-cylinder engine, with a manual 3-speed transmission. The last owner (a retired Ford mechanic) planned to rebuild the engine since it was dripping oil, but once he got is apart he recognized its near-perfect condition, so instead he replaced all the seals and gaskets and painted the engine. It looks great. Since I've had the Scout over the last year, I rebuilt the carberator and the hydraulic clutch master cylinder. It has a manual choke, which I use for the first few minutes after starting the truck each day. Overall, the engine runs great and the transmission shifts well. This Scout does not drip or burn oil. I have been driving it pretty consistently over the past few months and it has been very dependable. Four-Wheel Drive: The Scout has a twin-stick for 4x4 operation. Both the High and Low gears work well. This year I installed the manual locking hubs in order to take some of the stress off of the front transaxle. Works great. Electrical and Interior: Everything works, though there isn't alot of electrical in this truck. The low-beam switch for the headlights just went out; I will take some time to find out how to fix it. The headlights, turn lights, brake lights work well. The heater works great, though the fan might squeal for a few seconds when you first turn it on. As for the bench seat, it was re-stuffed and re-upholstered last year. The wipers work (hydraulic), the cigarette lighter works, the gas gauge works, the horn works. The Scout has two tanks (11 gallons each), but the right tank has not been used in many years; you will want to clean it out before using it. Body: The body is remarkably good; I sanded down the body in order to remove surface rust and put an olive green primer on top. I didn't spend a lot of time on the tailgate however; the rust has damaged the lower portion of the tailgate on the outside and the tailgate, though functional now, will eventually need to be replaced. The worst damage on the body is on the lower front portion of the rear fenders. Several small holes have opened up there due to rust. I removed the rust from the surface of the metal, but more work will need to be done in order to take care of it permanently. The rest of the body shows small dings and dents. There is also a creased dent on the passenger side rear fender (see photos). There is also some minor damage on the drip rail on the back of the hardtop. The hood of the truck and the front grill are in near-perfect condition. The drivers-side door does sag a little, but the hinges are not rusty. These doors are supposed to be removable as well, though I have not attempted to take them off. The bed of the truck is covered with surface rust; there are no noticeable holes in the bed. Tires and Brakes: The 16-inch tires are in very good condition and have at least 70% tread. I went with the white wheels in order to match the top, but you can go back to the original black if you'd like. The brakes are drums all around, but they work well; the previous owner replaced the brake lines and shoes last year. The emergency brakes also works quite well. This Scout is being sold "as-is" with no guarantees expressed or implied. I do reserve the right to end the auction at any time, since the Scout is being listed for sale locally as well. Please contact me with questions.
