This is a 1986 VW Golf GTI. It is Red with a Gray interior. It was bought new in Virginia for a South Carolina college student at Clemson University, and it has been a South Carolina car ever since. This is a very cool and classic GTI, and these are getting hard to find. Don't let this one get away! Please read complete description and view all photos before bidding! * 5- speed Transmission * ** 35 mpg ** * Sun Roof * * Hatchback * * New Tires ( less than 5k miles ) * * New Alternator ( replaced in 2011 ) * * New Exhaust ( replaced in 2011 ) * * New fueltank pump ( replaced in 2010 ) * * Clean inside & out * Issues that I am aware of: This car is 26 years old and has lots of wear and tear, but it also has lots of life left. All of the guages work except the odometer. The odometer reads 150k, but it quit working a couple of years ago, so it is being sold 'true miles unknown'. That's why the listing states miles 999999. It was repainted several years ago because the red paint was fading. Now that paint is starting to peel off (see photos). As a Southern car it has very little rust, just a couple of paint chip spots that have started to rust on the roof near the sun roof, and a couple on the body (see photos). There are a couple of rock chips on the windshield. The door moldings are very weathered and have additional screws put in them to hold them on (see photos). The headliner was removed because of sagging. With a hard rain or car wash, the sun roof will leak some. The a/c does not work and the compressor pulley rattles. I replaced two shifting rods for the 5-speed transmission, and they need to be adjusted, because now most of the time it won't go into 5th gear - just needs to be adjusted. The clutch is around 10 years old and the brakes are about two years old. The shocks/struts need to be replaced. The engine does use a little oil between changes. But it cranks every time and will take me anywhere I want to go. With a little TLC this will make someone a nice classic VW GTI.
