Vehicle Detail

1971 Challenger R/T Clone: Automatic, power steering and front disk brakes. Mechanicals: Includes 1969 440 short block that needs rebuild. Currently has a 1974 400 Engine, Comp Cam 292 Magnum, Schumacher TRI Y headers, 1969 906 heads with hardened valve seats, triple valve springs and 3 angle valve job with mild porting, Demon 850 Carburetor, Edelbrock dual plane intake, engine torque strap, aluminum mini starter, Optima battery mounted in trunk, MSD Ignition with 5000 RPM pill, and a hemi water pump. All wiring has been cleaned up and is lead soldered and shrunk wrapped. TCI Street Fighter transmission; 2800 RPM stall speed converter, good for up to 750 horsepower. 2.5 inch inside diameter exhaust with cross pipe and Flowmaster 30 series Mufflers. 8 ¾ Sure grip (POSI) differential with 3:23 gears. BODY: Car from Idaho originally, body is solid including floor pans, trunk pan, frame rails, behind rear window and hood hinge area. Car has 11 year old amateur restoration; it is good but not perfect. All the bright work including stainless and chrome is in excellent shape although front bumper has on very small spot of rust. I bought the car 11 years ago just after the restoration and I saw the pictures of it pre- painted and the car was solid. The car is painted 1974 Chevy Impala metallic green with pearl….Don’t ask me why? It is pretty and changes from black to green in different light. The car was originally green with green interior, a kind of ugly color. INTERIOR: Was an air conditioned car, I assume the factory vents are under the aftermarket dash cover but I don’t know. The interior plastic components i.e. door panels, console and rear seat door panel where originally green but have been painted black. Has a pistol grip shifter for automatic and works just like a T handle slap stick shifter. No rally dash so no tachometer, but all gauges, dash knobs and HVAC controls work well. EXTRAS: Includes 1969 440 short block that needs rebuild, new under hood heater control, side R/T plastic vents that are painted with mounting jigs that are ready to be installed in front of rear tires and the dual front R/T spoilers. These vents and spoilers where only available for 1971 Challengers; no other years. THE UGLY: Engine has piston slap or some kind of knock that goes away when warmed up; I have not pulled engine apart to investigate; I’ll leave that to you to do for this price. The 400 engine was lying around in my barn; I reamed the ridge on the cylinders and honed them, installed new rings, bearing, cam and lifters, acid dipped and new freeze plugs; but that was it. I don’t know how many miles this engine had on it but it (MIKECT) micrometer with in specs. It was only a substitute till I got the 440 rebuilt; which I never got too. There is small chips on paint behind the tires (it happens if you drive a car). Engine leaks a few drops of oil out of rear main over night. Radiator has a seeping leak under pressure(see pics) and could use some soldering; however it is three core and never runs warm. Summary: This is a great car and I will miss her; however I am older now and have different wants. I am an engine mechanical guy and I removed the 318 and installed the present engine. I honestly think it will be an easy inexpensive fix to repair the current 400; it could be a wrist pin but it’s weird that it goes away when warm. However, if you want a sideways tire burning second gear tire barking beast that that hits a 100 MPH very fast……..This is it!........ By the way a 440 to 520 plus cubic inch stroker kits are going for under 2000.00 dollars. The car is very drivable and would be glad to give you a sideways tire burning butt clinching ride or slower one; you decide.
