Vehicle Detail

The Peter Pirsch and Sons Company from Kenosha, Wisconsin was a very successful fire apparatus builder from the 1920s through the 1980s. In 1926 the company started producing their first complete Peter Pirsch fire engines; these were 150 to 750gpm pumpers, chemical and hose trucks powered by 6-cylinder Waukesha engines. In 1931 a one man operation hydro-mechanical aerial ladder hoist used on an 85ft articulated ladder truck was developed. The company discontinued production of their trucks in the early 1980s after reorganization of the company, with the last truck coming off the line in 1987. This auction is for a 1952 Peter Pirsch 75 foot articulated ladder pumper fire truck. This very fire engine guarded Wapokoneta, Ohio, the birthplace and childhood home of astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first human to set foot on the moon. There is a whole lot of hard steel and aluminum here! The ladders are all intact, however much of the fire equipment and other such paraphernalia, apparatus and equipment originally delivered new with this fire engine (such as hoses and pikes or poles) are gone now. Still, the BIG heavy-duty Waukasha 6-cylinder engine which powers the truck, pumps, and aerial ladder remains intact. I was told by the former owner that he had it running well about 10 years ago, but I want to BE CLEAR that I have NOT STARTED IT UP MYSELF since taking it in late last summer. The engine does not appear to be frozen and the starter will crank it. My mechanic was eager to get started recommissioning it saying that it would not take much to get the fire truck back in action. However, there are way too many other projects taking precedent over this, and frankly, I don't have the storage area for it. Most of the original lights including the rare Mars Signal Safety Light remain on the rig. The Mars Light sits on the very top of the windscreen truss and was intended to oscillate in a figure-8 pattern vertically and horizontally in order to catch the attention of motorists and pedestrians. I am not sure if the fire engine still has its siren, as I don't see anything on the exterior looking like a siren and I have no idea what all the gizmos under the long long hood are. The cab of the fire engine is an open-style one, but has a removable leather/vinyl convertible top covering it. The whole fire engine is 38 feet long with ladders non-extended and is the type of fire engine where the whole fire brigade jumped on board as it was heading out of the station and held onto hand rails on the way to the fire (you know, like in the movies). There is only one hose left in one of the side compartments and a few connectors and couplings. The original platform based high pressure water nozzle remains and sits on the rotating aerial ladder platform. This truck was taken in by me in a partial trade for another automobile transaction. I originally intended to restore it to its original 1952 glory. However, as I stated above, I have now found that I do not have the time and have way too many other projects that are taking precedence. TO BE CLEAR, NO DELIVERY IS INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE. The man who traded it to me had it brought in on a large flatbed truck. You must pick up the fire engine within fourteen days of purchase. The winning bidder will be given the fire engine on bill of sale as no title exists or ever has for the fire truck, since it was purchased and owned by a municipality's city government as I was told.
