Vehicle Detail

Hi folks, Up for sale is a beautiful Mercedes 300SD finished in rare and beautiful surf blue (surfblau), a real treat in person. This is a very rare color for the S-class, and infact was the color of choice for the Dutch Royal family. I have not personally seen an S-class stateside in this color. Check out this link on the color http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.coachbuild.com/index.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26task%3Dview%26id%3D145%26Itemid%3D37&sa=U&ei=Lcw6T-vNM8fo2gW077mRCg&ved=0CB4QFjAG&usg=AFQjCNG1MySLaPDqb7fvMZFlHGDV3YuHHQ I am a huge Mercedes fan. My wife drives an ML350 Bluetec and I have an E63 Estate Wagon. This car splits time with the E63 as my daily driver. I really enjoy and caring for older Mercedes. I recenty deviated and purchased an Alfa convertible, forcing the reluctant sale. My prior Benz diesels included a 92 300D and an 85 300D. MECHANICAL: The OM617 engine is in great shape, with only 61k on a functioning odometer. The transmission shifts are smooth, with no flaring. I average 30 mpg on the highway at 70mph and around 24 mpg in the city. This was a one owner car, owned by an elderly gentleman. When he couldn't drive anymore in 2005, it was in storage for about 6 years. The car was regularly started by his caregiver, but only driven around the block. When I purchased the car last year, I went through the entire car to ensure its roadworthiness. It has been extremely reliable as a daily driver, with over $3000 spent. Recent service highlights include - Front Ball joints. These are an expensive labor intense fix. The tie rods and control arms and other bottom end components are in good shape. - New steering damper. Car tracks straight down the road and cruises well at 70 MPH, without any steering shakes or shimmies. - Front and rear brake pads with resurfaced rotors and sensors. New front calipers. - New brake master cylinder with brake fluid flushed. - Fuel system cleaned out. - Resealed oil pan gasket. - Tracked down and fixed a few vacuum leaks - the doors all lock like they should, air blows out of the center vents and the car turns off immediately. - AC serviced - it was converted over to R134A in 2004 and I had the systen checked for leaks (which there were none) and topped off. It blows very cold. Heat works great. - Recent battery. - May benefit from front shocks in the future. They are fine as is for me. - Replaced the RPM tach sensor, but the RpM gauge is sometimes intermittent. The gas guage will read 3/4 full when the tank is full. It works when it reaches that level till empty. EXTERIOR: Finished in Deep blue (Code 900), the exterior is in great shape. Being a southern car, there is NO RUST. No fading or oxidation, even on the roof. Car was recently buffed out. - Chrome is in good shape. - Few scratches on the bumpers and a few small scratches on the trunk and passenegr front fender. Several smal dings on the drivers side rear door. - 14" inch upgraded OEM wheels in good shape with 2 New Michelins. Remaining 2 have 80% tread. - Windshield is in good shape with a tiny rock chip on the passenger side glass. No cracks. - The radio antenna doesn't automatically retract. - There is a small crack in the lower front grill, which is otherwise in good shape. INTERIOR: Tan interior is well preserved thanks to being garaged. NON SMOKER. - NO DASH CRACKS - Seats have no rips or tears. Minimal wear on the bolsters. Seat springs were checked out and are in good shape. No broken springs noted. That said, they are not as firm as when new. - Power seats work fine - The Zebrano wood is in excellent shape without any cracks or delamination. - The dials and the needles in the instrument cluster are bright and orange, and not faded, another sign of being garaged. - Headliner is perfect. - OEM factory upgraded Blaupunkt radio and speakers in good shape. - Carpets are in good shape. No unsightly stains. - All power windows work great. The passenger rear window needs help going up. Functional power side view mirror. In summary, you are getting a wonderful piece of German engineering that will continue to provide years of motoring bliss. The car is not new, but is very clean for a 29 year old. It is not concours but can easily be. These cars are virtually indestructible. They don't quite build them like this anymore. Be realistic in your expectations and you will not be disappointed.
