Vehicle Detail
Hello: Please read this description carefully. I have tried to be as complete as possible as I do not want any surprises. It is a great car, but it is not a new car. If you are curious about something you don't see, please feel free to ask questions! I have lots more pics of this car. EBAY has instituted some stupid new policy where I can't post a link to a photobucket gallery-even though their new links policy specifically allows posting links to an image hosting site!! If interested, please contact me via email and I will give you the link to the pics. OR go to photobucket.com / redmont_wagon (delete spaces but leave the underscore) Up for grabs is this very nice fairmont wagon. It is a base car with 2.3 4 cylinder engine, four speed transmission, no AC, bucket seats and cruise control (and it works). The only deviation from stock is that it has a strong 8.8 rear end instead of the standard 7.5 that Fairmonts and 4 cylinder mustangs were equipped with. The body is in very good condition, with straight sheet metal and no evidence of ever having been in a collision. The floopans and shock towers are very solid with only very minor surface rust evident in a couple of spots. There are no holes or crunchy rot-no work needs to be done. The doors open and close, the windows go up and down and the hatch stays up. There is minor surface rust under the passenger side mirror and near the trim on the rear passenger side window - sand and spray type stuff. There is some surface rust on the bottom of the rear passenger side door, but again its not rotted out or a problem requiring massive bodywork or a new door. The paint is shiny, but has flaws. The pics probably make it look better than it is. It is very presentable and gets lots of positive comments, but it is not a show car by any stretch. There is a small crack in the lower driver side corner of the windshield. It is not growing. The dash has a crack, and the carpet could stand to be replaced. There is no headliner in the car. The cargo area shows sunfading, but this would easily be fixed with spray dye. It appears to have been a nonsmoker car. THE WHEELS AND TIRES PICTURED ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE CAR. It will come with stock steel wheels and tires. It appears that everything on this car works (lights, wipers, cruise, heat). Even the washer squirters work, but I have not drained the old fluid. The car runs and drives. I have put a couple hundred miles on it, highway and in town and it hasn't let me down. It is slow, but gets good gas mileage. The struts and shocks are showing their age, and could stand to be replaced. The manual steering rack is new, but an alignment has not been done since it was installed. Car goes down the road straight and such, but I expect tire wear will be accelerated until an alignment is done. As everyone looking at this ad probably knows, the 5.0 Mustangs were all based on the Ford Fairmont. As a result, almost all of the 5.0 bolt ons and other goodies will bolt right on, making it very easy to have a fast, inexpensive and unique car. This car is a better choice than most as a swap candidate. The options it comes with will save a ton of time and energy (and money) sourcing and installing the good swap parts. Being a 4 cylinder (rather than a 6 as most of these cars are), a ford small block V8 will drop right in with the factory mounts. I you want a stick shift hot rod, it is already a 4 speed so the pedals and hole in the driveshaft tunnel are already there and done to a factory standard. There will also be no ghost shift linkage on the steering column when the swap is done. For the drag racers, the car already has manual steering (rack is NEW), and no AC to remove and dispose of. The strong Ford 8.8 is already in place saving lots of time and a couple hundred dollars coming up with a Mustang rear end. This car was born to be a hot-rod! THE WHEELS AND TIRES PICTURED ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE CAR. It will come with stock steel wheels and tires. I am willing to deal with a transport company once the car is fully paid for, if the buyer handles all the details. Car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction in case of local buyer. Reserve is low and fair. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
