Vehicle Detail
1961 Ford P35. Real ice cream truck. Former Mister Softee truck from Long Island, NY. Runs (I start it every year), but is not currently road legal because interior from driver's seat back has been completely gutted out (including floor). Nice project vehicle. Blank canvas. Could be something special. Inline 6 engine, auto trans on the column, turn signals, brakes, tires all seem OK. I've had this for years now and must face that I am not going to do anything with it. Buyer responsible for transporting vehicle from Berwick, PA 18603. Selling without reserve with starting bid much less than what I have in it. Ask any questions and I will do my best to answer. On Mar-27-12 at 15:24:26 PDT, seller added the following information: OK. I added more pictures showing the inside and other sides. Like I said the inside was stripped out. They aren't making any more of the vintage trucks. I love the real old time look. I hope somebody can do something with this truck. It could be pretty neat if you have the skills. On Mar-28-12 at 08:59:38 PDT, seller added the following information: I got asked a question about how the truck runs and drives. Not to be smart, but it runs and drives how you might expect from a 1961 ice cream truck. The truck is not currently road legal due to no floor, but the truck does start and run. However, it needs some patience. Meaning that unlike modern cars this truck has a choke that has to be adjusted (pulled out) to start, let it warm up a couple minutes, push the choke back in a bit, and drive the vehicle. Once you've done it, it is not difficult. Someone who isn't used to an older vehicle with a choke can flood the carb with gas and get frustrated. The truck does not have power steering or power brakes. It also has vintage suspension. This just requires the driver to think ahead a bit. For example, plan on a longer stopping distance than with modern vehicles. I have driven the truck on the road and I think it runs and drives very good for what it is. Don't expect to fly down the highway at 75. This truck was designed and geared for driving an ice cream route. It'll go 55, but that's about it. Mechanically, the engine, drivetrain, brakes, exhaust, turn signals, headlights, tires, are good. Also, when the vehicle isn't in use I pull off the negative battery cable or the battery will go dead. This is very easy, just a matter of remembering to do it. Hope this helps. On Mar-29-12 at 07:09:06 PDT, seller added the following information: Serving window glass is cracked. This can be repaired by any glass/window person. I do have brand new professional serving windows to fit this truck. They are not included in the auction, but like a bunch of stuff I have, they will be available to the winner of the truck at a discounted price. If the winner isn't interested in purchasing them, they will get listed on eBay eventually. On Mar-30-12 at 15:04:56 PDT, seller added the following information: I added a picture showing the roof. Just some minor surface rust. Opening on top could be used for exhaust vent or A/C.
