Vehicle Detail

Offered here is a 1953 Cadillac 2 door. The car is sold strictly as is where is, with all the bad and all the good, no warranties expressed or implied. Winning bidder shall pay a $250 deposit via paypal within 48 hours from end of auction. Failure to pay deposit forfeits bidder's rights and we'll move on to someone else (but I hope not, I really want you to have it!). Balance to be paid in cash at pick up. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Inspections are invited and encouraged. FYI: eBay is apparently automatically adding the comment about "adjustable steering wheel" as standard equipment; I don't think this car has that, and I haven't been able to make that comment go away. I acquired this car in January from a guy who was moving and didn't feel like taking it with. The car had been sitting in that spot (and on his trailer) for quite a while. It's one of those deals where you pass a car every day for however long and kick around the idea of knocking on the door. One day I was walking my dog just as he came home and the next thing I know I bought the car. The title is free and clear; that is to say that there are no liens, and it is signed and open and in hand. I did not change it over. If an open title concerns you, if you prefer I will change it over and we can schedule final payment and pick up for after when the title comes back. However; I will require that the winning bidder pays the deposit mentioned above first. I've never driven the car, I'm not sure if anyone still living has driven the car, I doubt that anyone will ever drive it again. I see this as a parts cars, but I won't stand in the way of true love; so if you want to buy it to put back together, have at it. Known flaws: -rust, rust, and rust -rockers and floors are severely rusted, pop rivet tin patches in floors, plenty of putty in the lower body -interior is what you'd expect for a 59 year old neglected parts car -tires are bad; they will air up for loading, but that's about it The pluses: -what I'm assuming is the original 331 4-Bbl is present, complete and turns by hand -lot's of desirable 2-door trim inside and out -a useable set of 2-door rear fender skirts -bumpers are straight and pretty solid (bumper guards are pretty rough, but the actual bumpers aren't that bad) good candidates for re-chroming or clean them up if you've got a beater driver / rod -front fenders and hood are in fairly good shape -has power steering option -valve covers (with the stamped "Cadillac" script) look like stainless to me, don't know if this is rare or common but they sure are cool -comes with a bunch of stuff in the trunk including some trim and better bumper guards -has the false vent trim still on the sides, I understand that is fairly desirable (not perfect, but savable in my opinion) -will roll for loading -outer removable portion of rear fenders are rough at the bottom, but you could make a Cheech-n-Chong van. From the gear selector and what I was told by the PO, this car has a Hydramatic (not the Dynaflow that shows up in a few '53 Cad's). I haven't actually checked it out, but if it matters I will be glad to. I've got one 1953 headlight door that I will throw in (it was laying loose so I stuck it inside for safe keeping). This car weighs around 2 1/2 tons. Figure scrap value on the shell and a gold mine of useable parts waiting to be picked and this starts to make a little more sense. You've already looked at it this much, so we both know you're interested in it in some way. What better way than this is there to say "I love you" to your significant other than to plant this car in your yard this spring? You now know about as much about this car as I do. I will be happy to send you more pics, please be specific about what you want to see. Please ask any questions you have. Please feel free to inspect the car. PLEASE do these things before placing a bid. Thanks for looking. On Mar-18-12 at 19:29:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Just added pics of floor patches at front. On Mar-19-12 at 05:46:01 PDT, seller added the following information: Added some interior pics per request. On Mar-21-12 at 17:58:12 PDT, seller added the following information: Update regarding the hood: I originally thought that the hood was basically sound. Turns out the outer skin is basically sound. The portion that used to go across the front underneath (the part that had the pin that would engage the latch mechanism), that lower part is completely missing. Someone could possibly replace that portion from another hood with a damaged skin. Who knows? Would it be worth it? Anyway, there it is.
