1969 Mercedes 280SL On offer is this very solid California rust-free Mercedes 280SL. The car shows well in red over tan interior with black soft top. I am selling the car for a client, who unfortunately, lost his wife last year, the main driver of the car. Now ill himself, it is time to part with it, after many years of ownership. The car was restored and repainted some years ago, and is generally in good condition. The paint is showing a little wear, with some blemishes, scratches, etc. There is a touched up area of paint loss on the trunk lid, a little larger than a quarter coin. The body is solid as is the underside. It has had replacement fenders at some point, and possibly the hood, but fitment is good and solid. The frame and underside show no signs of accident damage or rust repair. Wheels are in good condition, shod with good tires. Glass is excellent throughout, and chrome is generally very good. Mechanically the car is in very good condition. It drives very well with good response and power from the 2.8l straight six engine. I am told it was fully rebuilt at the time the car was painted, and from the feel of it, I don’t doubt it, though have no paperwork on it. The automatic gearbox very shifts very smoothly, brakes and suspension are good. The car is fitted with AC, but it doesn’t blow very cold. The interior of the car is in good condition as well. There are very few signs of wear on any of the interior surfaces, including, dash, seats, door panels, carpets, etc., leading me to believe the car was used sparingly after restoration. The wood veneer around the windshield is dead, though not delaminated, so an easy restoration. The soft top is in OK condition, and the hardtop is generally good, and fits well. The car comes with a limited number receipts for work carried out, and all keys. It is offered with a Salvage CA title. It was stolen some years ago and recovered, strip of some parts, including the interior, inspiring the restoration of the car. The original steering wheel comes with the car, but the rim is split and the upholstery needs restoring. This is a good solid rust-free example of the ever-stylish and useable Mercedes pagoda, in good driving condition.
