Up for auction is my 1997 Ford Explorer XLT with a 5.0L V8 engine and AWD automatic transmission. This SUV has 159,538 miles and the towing and cold start package, though neither was ever used. I am the original owner of this vehicle, and took good care of it. Over the years typical repairs took place, never anything major, no accidents. When my son got his drivers license, I prepared the car for him by replacing the steering rack (was leaking) , the CV joints, upper / lower ball joints, other front end components, and the exhaust from the muffler back. This work was done about 5K miles ago. Unfortunately, he swerved to avoid a deer hit a curb followed by side swiping a tree. There are a few dents and scratches on the passenger side doors and the passenger side front tire / rim was replaced so the tire does not match the other 3 tires. The car now pulls to the right and the steering rack leaks, so the right front end needs attention. We took it off the road last May. The battery was dead so I replaced it last week. Since losing the fluid, the power steering pump whines. There is also a problem with the left blinker / flasher and the switch on the rearview mirror for auto headlights. On the positive side, the engine / drivetrain have been solid from the beginning and I expect will last for years to come. The car will need some work or is an excellent source of good parts.
