Vehicle Detail

This is a re-listing of my Renault R10, which I listed last week with erroneous information, specifically a wrong VIN number and model year. Same car, different week, I'll try to do better this time. Rather than be unclear about the extra parts I provide, I am installing them as the car gets inspected. So far, I have added a clean set of old Michelins, hubcaps, lenses, and a trim strip. This is an effort to see that you get a whole intact automobile, not most of a car and long list of needs. As restorations go, this one is suitable for the home mechanic. It doesn't need a rotisserie, and no one should be concerned with Barrett Jackson. The car is straight and structurally sound, and is cosmetically presentable if you just want to make it back into a driver. Pale seafoam paint still looks decent. The car has been stored in the back corner of my warehouse for many years, specifically because it was too nice to leave outside. During the course of the auction, I will clean, inspect, and photograph the car as if I were buying it from somewhere else. I do know these models inside and out, and can answer your questions accurately (if I somehow leave anything unanswered). So far I have determined that it rolls well (think towbar retrieval with any car over 1600ccs), the undercarriage and wheel wells are as close to rust free as you're likely to find (see pics), and I have found no sign of previous collision damage. There is the customary crease on the drivers door from being opened too far, but that's the worst damage I have found. I pulled the spark plugs and pre lubed the cylinder walls; then used the manual crank; the engine turned immediately, with no sign of sticking or drag. Much more description and analysis to follow, but I will report condition only, as opposed to making it into a driver for you. That means you get to perform all the standard resurrection tasks that come with a vehicle that hasn't been run in 20 years. At least half of that was indoors...Auction may end early by local sale, or I can accomodate your reasonable Buy it Now offer. Lots to follow, please Watch This Item for pictures and descriptions of condition. Thanks for Looking! Dan Larson From my previous listing, still true: One interesting aspect of this car is that it is loaded with factory and aftermarket options, including air conditioning, cruise control, trip and engine computer monitoring, gauges, and a few I more I haven't figured out yet. I'm hoping for Ebayer guidance on some of this equipment, as I have no background in the electronic options. Now would be the time to make a few conditions clear: One, if you are a zero feedback Ebayer, I require some form of contact that convinces me you are a serious, valid bidder with a full grasp of what it takes to transport, repair, maintain and own an old French car. I realize that everyone starts at zero feedback; the best way to learn the system is to try it at the $10 level. There is a contractual responsibility in every bid you place, and everybodys expenses rise with the value of the item. I can't afford to take a chance that a neophyte Ebayer would learn this at my expense. If your feedback is under ten, YOU MUST establish your credibility, or I will cancel your bids. Even if you do have a higher feedback rating, I encourage you to be aware of what it takes to follow through after the bidding ends. The car is in a clean secure warehouse next to Interstate 25 in Denver. Loading help is provided, so is a month free storage if you would like to make a Colorado vacation of it. I'll even help you with fitting a towbar if you're a do it yourselfer (which you should be to own this car - don't plan on taking it to your local repair shop unless you know "the Guy"). Be serious - I am. Much as I'd like to say "Fly out, drive home", that's a NO. Even if I do get it running before auctions end, it's been sitting too long to expect interstate cruising. Before, during, and after the sale, I will help with most or all of your parts needs. I saved the car this long because a Renault person can make a nice R10 without big restoration expenses. Not a bad investment of time for the unique and economical service this car can give you. On Mar-11-12 at 00:33:59 PST, seller added the following information: 3/11/12 Here is a list of items either needing attention or worth mentioning to a prospective buyer: First, you should expect to clean and reseal the fuel, cooling, braking and air conditioning systems - you cannot risk regular operation on 20 year old seals. That means flush, refill, and bleed all systems in conjunction with new seals. The brake pedal goes to the floor; sounds bad, but Renaults are known to lose pedal if parked more than two months. All I can say for the internal condition of the engine is that it turns smoothly and has compression. The fuel filler neck is disconnected, and the insulated firewall sheetmetal has been partly unbolted. All the parts are there, including the gas cap, but I don't know why the work was done. Next, expect numerous defects in the paint and bodywork that don't show well in the pictures. There are scratches, a drivers door crease, and light hail dings on the upper surfaces. No collision damage or serious rust. The windshield has chips and sand speckling, but no cracks. The front bumper center piece is dented, but I will include a decent replacement with the car. I have already replaced all broken lenses with NOS or very nice used parts. I will include a set of good wiper blades; the current units are toast. There is no battery. The left rear tire does not have a whitewall stripe. Door latches need lubrication, as they stick on the strike plates and make opening difficult. In my previous listing I stated that I would include extra parts as I saw the need. That was, and is, an offer to help the new owner get the car roadworthy. I had a few emails demanding an inventory of the extra parts and services included in the auction, which came across to me as suspicious, greedy, or both. I would prefer not to sell my car to you if you're a weenie - of course, you might not be aware of that, but if you're one who needs an itemized statement of intention and a line listing of parts, please don't bid. I like to help people, period. Now for some good reports: The interior is nice, and ready for use. Seat upholstery is intact, and the seats are deep and comfortable. The headliner is coming down over the back seat, but it's not ripped, and could likely be reinstalled. If not, there is a new in the box headliner form JC Whitney circa 1985 that is included in the auction. Rubber floor mats are good. Options previously mentioned include a trip computer, intermittent wipers, third brake light, factory air conditioning, aftermarket gauges, cruise control, plug in engine heater, double coil springs in back, and probably more that I'm missing. The car rolls easily, and the parking brake works. All things considered, this car is light years ahead of most R10s out there as a restoration candidate. The main reason for that is the absence of rust, especially in areas known for problems. If you can fix a lawnmower, you can make this car go, in your own garage, with normal hand tools. No cutting and welding, no boutique service shop. Lastly, I will include a factory shop manual specifically for this car. The French are very good at accurately picturing every assembly, with service procedures clearly outlined. Thanks for your attention and patience on this - If any of this late information changes your position on bidding, by all means use the Ebay instructions for retraction. Otherwise, I will look forward to meeting the new owner. Dan
