Vehicle Detail

Due to a non-contact bidder, I am re-listing my car for sale. Please do not bid if you do not expect to pay. Thanks I am selling my 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass S (442 Clone?). I have been working on this car for over a year and half since I bought it and put a lot of time and money into it. I could guess around $7000 including the car itself. I have most of the reciepts for things that went into it. It came with A/C, Power Steering and Power Brakes. Firstly, if you read up on the1972 model year 442....that was the only year it was not noted through the vin number. In 72 it was only basically an "appearance package". When I bought the car the 442 grill was already on it and the person I bought it from was not sure if it was or not. I would assume not since it had the Cutlass "S" door panels. So anyways I was making this into a 442 as that was my goal. The other thing that made me question is it has highway gears (non posi) for sure, but again if it was an appearance package only then that would not have mattered. As a note, if you are looking for a pure Olds that rolled off the line in 1971-72 then this is not the car for you. This is more of a hot rod, but you could convert it back if you would like. When I bought the car it had an almost dead Olds 350 with the TH-350. I figured since I had to rebuild it anyways then I may as well go with a Olds 455 and a Turbo 400 transmission. The Good: The 455 is from an early 70's block and "C" heads (non emission) that were some of the best flowing you can get. It was bored .030 over and 9.1 compression pistons. I used ARP Head and Rod bolts. The shop balanced the assembly and a certified mechanic assembled it. It has a stock crank and rods, Mondello JM-18-20 camshaft and lifters. Using an Edelbrock Perfomer Intake and Holley 750CFM carb. GM HEI distributor and Accel wires/NGK Plugs. It has headers and the brake valve was moved for fitment. Transmission was completely rebuilt and a shift kit was installed as well. It has the console with "His and Hers Hurst Shifter". New front/rear springs and shocks, poly front A arms and poly sway bar end links. The brakes have all been replaced. Copper 4 core radiator, rebuilt heater/ac box with new fan. New gas tank with new sending unit. New Autometer gauges (except no speedo), Pioneer CD/MP3 player (speakers are not connected) and 6x9's in the rear deck (Pioneer). Sport Side mirrors which are getting harder to come by along with the rear spoiler (repro). The wheels have been sandblasted and painted. They are great driver wheels and are wrapped in brand new BF Goodrich tires. It has the Grand Cherokee Steering box swap which gives it a tighter turn radius and better feel. The frame looks good and not cracked or rusted with holes. I have quite a few restoration parts in the trunk as in arm rests and weather stripping. The Bad: The car will need new floors as currently it has the normal cheap "Stop sign" type fix. As you can see in the pics the passenger rear has had bondo in it and its cracking (only location). The 455 has a couple of pin holes in the oil pan and is leaking when it sits. You will want to put a new pan on. It does not have a choke connected as I was going to use a Holley electric conversion. It will need a kick down switch in the floor for the transmission, but can drive without it. It needs a headliner installed and will need new front door panels and seats re-done. The rear panels are not bad, but the back seat is cracking due to age. Also the heating/air duct system needs to go back in. It will need to have the alignment done before driven and also it will need an exhaust installed. You will not be able to drive this one home because the exhaust is way too loud and you would probably not make it 10 miles down the road before cop pulls you over. At least though it is movable and will make it easier for loading on a flat-bed or trailer. It will of course need new bumpers as the previous owner painted them in primer as well? Let me know if you have any other questions at all. I also have a video with the engine running so you can hear it (The best my phone can provide) The title is free and clear. Again this is not a perfectly restored car, but I am not asking the normal $14,000-$20,000 on it. This will be a great deal for someone that wants to complete it. Put another$3,000-$5000 in it and you will have a $12,000-$15,000 car at least. The price for a rebuilt 455 on Ebay is $3000. I honestly got burned out on the work and decided it was time to sell. I have 2 jobs now so the extra free time is gone working on it. Thanks for looking On Jan-28-12 at 18:38:15 PST, seller added the following information: Here is the link for the YouTube video of the car running. http://youtu.be/kg-HdrplXMs
