Vehicle Detail
Original owner of a beautiful, classic 1987 Chevrolet Silverado. Short wheel base, fleetside body style in exceptional condition. If you can remember back a quarter-century when this truck was new, 1987 was the year Chevy resumed putting the 350 c.i. engine in their trucks, after several years of 305's due to the gas crunch of the 80's. This truck also is fuel injected. This vehicle was loaded (for the day!), to include power windows and locks; cruise control; tilt wheel; dual gas tanks; intermittent wipers; Chevy mag wheels; and more. I've also added a tri-fold bed cover and the bed has a spray liner and heavy rubber factory bed mat. I've kept meticulous records of the vehicle's maintenance, down to recording every tank of gas that's ever been put in it; every oil/filter change; and every other maintenance procedure. Of note the truck was re-painted about five years ago by a local independent body shop. The tires have about 9k miles on them; radiator about 26k miles; complete air conditioning replacement/conversion 35k miles; front end steering system (upper/lower ball joints; idler and pitman arms; rotors) as well as rear brake drums about 51k miles; heater core 60k miles. The truck runs very well and has been my daily use vehicle until recently when I switched to a quad cab to drive my son around the state for motocross racing. It is in great shape but there are a few issues potential buyers should be aware of. The oil pressure gauge works intermittently. I've replaced the gauge and sending unit but it's still inconsistent. I'm POSITIVE this is not an oil pressure issue, rather the gauge or something related (i.e. electrical). The driver side seat belt latch is weak. I would have replaced it but haven't found an exact match to stock. Of late the truck has been sitting (several months) except for occasional drives to make sure it's running well. Since sitting there's an oil smell on occasion when you drive the truck. I've replaced the valve cover gaskets but the smell persists. It might be the oil pan gasket but I haven't tried replacing it yet. The truck burns very little oil and has the common Chevy "puff" of smoke on initial cold start, presumably due to 25 year old valves and seals. And in the interest of full disclosure, I have an aftermarket sound system with a separate six CD changer. The sound system is average at best. I highlighted the issues with the vehicle so any potential buyer would know what they're getting. Despite these few problems, this is a beautiful vehicle that's been babied since the day it was purchased. It needs nothing to drive now as a daily use vehicle. Or it would make an excellent addition to any classic car collection. Every time I take it out I get compliments. It's an awesome truck. I can be reached directly on my cell phone at 210-913-9548. Thanks for your interest... ***The eBay inspection report shows this vehicle being involved in an accident in Oregon in 1992. This vehicle has never been in Oregon, so obviously this is an error. For the record I bought it new in Austin, TX in 1987. I moved several times for my job and the truck always went with me. I lived in Los Angeles, CA; Pocatello, ID; Columbus, OH; and now in San Antonio, TX. Also while living in the cold climates of Idaho and Ohio, I never drove this two-wheel drive truck in the snow. I bought a used four-wheel drive Suburban and drove it during the winters in these two states. Let me know if you have any questions about the reported accident, but again, I can assure you it's in error. Thanks...
