Vehicle Detail

1955 PACKARD PATRICAN TOURING SEDAN Model Number: 5582 Body Number: D0510 Vin Number: 5582-5369 Paint Code: GE (Moonstone over Ultramarine) Interior Code: 62 (Light Blue Classic Nylon & Dark Blue Doeskin) Believed to have 35,879 original miles This 1955 Packard is a 2 owner car (1955-1970, and 1970-2012) that has been stored in a barn since the second owner died years ago. I purchased the car from his 85 year old wife, with plans of a complete restoration. However, days later I was able to purchase my dream car, a 1951 Packard Mayfair, and since I only have the resources to properly restore one car, sadly this one must go. Aside from a very quick interior vacuum and dusting, this car is as-found. It has not been washed, dusted, detailed, etc. All I did was fill up the tires with air and have the car flatbedded home. This car is a GREAT candidate for restoration. Aside from a 1970 repaint it appears completely original inside and out. The frame, floors, and trunk floor seem to be very solid. The trunk lid and hood edges are rust free. The exhaust was replaced in 1966 and what is left of it is rusted out. There is a little rust here and there and aroud the rear wheel wells but overall the car body appears solid. There is a very small amount of bondo in rear wheel well, only bondo I can find anywhere on car. The tires are old and only hold air for a few days before going soft. Two side windows (flat glass) are cracked but replacement are easily found online. I was told this car ran very well and was driven very regularly until the generator stopped charging the battery. The owner removed the generator to send out for restoration, but died unexpectedly before he could. Car needs generator rebuilt and new battery to run. I was told the rear torsion-bar suspension worked fine but it is all the way down from years of sitting at the moment. Please note, what appears to be rust on interior floor pics is carpet padding! Folks this is not a show car it needs complete restoration inside and out, but it is a great candidate with a lot of potential. I don't know much about the car aside from what I've put here so assume nothing works, everything is broke, and it all needs restored ;-) I am posting lots of photos, and will take additional upon request. I will answer any questions honestly and to the best of my ability. I'm not out to scam anyone, just to find this Packard a good home. Will need to be shipped/flatbedded home. EXTERIOR the hood is solid, without the common rustout along edges rear bumper is in nice shape that is surface rust where the trim came off, trim is in trunk hood ornament is cracked but complete original factory keys! the missing trim from door panels & exterior, also the factory spare wheel INTERIOR Interior Code #62, Light Blue Nylon & Dark Blue Doeskin. Interior needs complete restoration, but appears to be 100% factory original and 99-100% complete. The trim missing on the door panels is in trunk. Car features power steering, brakes, and antenna, and rare options of power windows, four-way power seat, and dual heaters. Interior smells musty / like a barn but seems to be bone dry everywhere. What you see in photos on floor is NOT rust, it is the carpet padding where carpet is gone. Floor seem very solid, and car was undercoated new or very early on. guages, knobs in very nice shape interior carpet is shot 35,879 miles, believed to be original rare factory 4 way power seats! intact Body By Packard emblem original sunvisors and rear view mirror intact original grab rope, seat back lighter and ashtray what appears to be rust is carpet pad, where carpet is gone what appears to be rust is carpet pad where carpet is gone original factory body tag with VIN and paint and interior codes TRUNK The trunk is large and after 2 days of pouring rain, stayed bone dry inside. Trunk floor seems very solid, as does well where spare tire sits. The factory spare wheel (no tire) is included. original trunk fabric is shot but present so you can see what you need for restoration. Fender skirts, missing trim, etc. is in trunk. the trunk lid is solid with good edges the trunk floor seems solid including spare tire area. oringal fabric and pad remains ENGINE & MECHANICAL I was told that before the owner died, the car was driven to shows and out for drives when the weather was nice. Was told everything worked, car ran and drove good. Was taken off road to have generator restored, however, owner removed generator, then died before he could do anything with it. I have generator, it still needs restoration and car needs new battery. THE NOT SO FINE FINE PRINT I have the clear title and it will be provided upon payment of car in full. As one would expect from a private seller, the car is sold as-is, where-is, and there are no warranties written, expressed, or implied. Please keep in mind this is a 55 year old car and has various wear and tear associated with. Assume everything needs restoration. Please ask all questions PRIOR to bidding and only bid if you can afford to pay. $1000 non-refundable deposit via paypal due within 24 hours of auction close. Remainder of funds must be paid in cash or USPS money orders within 7 days of auction end. Car must be picked up within 14 days of auction end. Buyer is responsible for all transportation costs and arrangements. Car will need to be trailed home unless you want to get it running in my driveway! Please let me know if you need any more information or photos. American bidders only! Thanks, and happy bidding! On Feb-05-12 at 14:02:08 PST, seller added the following information: Update: I think there is some bondo or filler around the headlight buckets. I had only noticed some around the rear wheel wells earlier. I'm not sure if there is any other on the car but these two places are all I have noticed. Also, the the paint in the engine compartment and underside of hood, door jams, and trunk and underside of trunk lid looks to be original. If you have any questions or want me to photograph or look at anything particular on the car let me know. I am a police officer, not a mechanic, but I will do my best to answer any questions! Thanks!
