Vehicle Detail
This car was sold new to Mr. C. F. Tang of Vancouver, BC Canada by MCL Motors in Vancouver. The delivery inspection was carried out 8/31/97 according to the dealer stamped entry in the original warranty book. It is a "Rest Of World" car meaning not originally sold in the US market and has metric speedometer and gauge pkg. All dealer service entries are in KM. The car was imported to the US and passed a US Dept of Transportation inspection 10/30/2001 and a Mr. Roy Nicholson of Blaine, WA became the second owner. I have a copy of the title. The car was issued an "Exempt Mileage" title because the WA DMV did not recognize the mileage reported in KM. I have the CARFAX report run at the time I bought it and the car had 59,000km or 36,660 miles on it when it was bonded over to the US and sold to Mr Nicholson. Mr. Nicholson drove the car and continued to have it serviced at Weissach Motors, a very reputable Porsche dealer in Vancouver. He eventually hired Urbano Moto in Bellingham, WA to broker the car and I found it listed on E-bay by Urbano Moto and bought it 4/21/07 with 55,101 miles on it according to the dealer odometer disclosure. Stamped dealer service entries in the warranty book take the car thru 12/17/04 when Weissach Motors replaced the timing belt, water pump, coolant and brake fluid at 82,326 KM. The service sticker is on the air filter cover under the hood. The odometer currently shows 91,616 KM or 56,927 miles as shown in the mileage field of the E-Bay ad. Urbano Moto had the car shipped to me in Michigan. The transport company managed to drop a chain hook on the sunroof panel at some point which was not discovered for a few days. It is the only damage on an otherwise pristine rust free body which wears it's original paint. I never had this repaired as it is a very minor dent in the panel. The car ran perfect but had niggling issues such as the brake light warning lamp would not cancel, the A/C was low on charge, the hood insulator was heat delaminating, the cruise control did not work and it had an aftermarket Alpine radio in it that sounded like junk and the optional Blaupunkt Hi-Fi amplifier had been disconnected. The steering wheel lock and gas cap locks did not work. I have restored several classic cars and boats and so set to work doing a complete service on the car including changing all engine and transmission fluids, transmission, air fuel and smog pump filters. I performed a timing belt tension check, installed new spark plugs and plug wire heat shielding, new hood liner and all exterior and interior lamps were replaced including the headlamp bulbs which were replaced with PIAA bulbs I replaced the Alpine radio with a correct Porsche refurbished Blaupunkt unit and rewired the Hi-Fi amplifier using original wire harneses, fixed the bad tailight ground, and replaced the faulty speed control amplifier. I replaced the bearings in the steering column responsible for the inoperative steering lock, repaired the gas cap lock and completely degreased and cleaned the underbody of the car. While working on the underbody of the car I replaced the altenator slip ring brushes and replaced a broken alternator cooling duct and replaced the dust boots on the rack and pinion steering. The car's A/C system had been converted to R-134A refrigerant by the dealer and I recharged the A/C system restoring it to ice-cold performance. I have an extensive XL file of all the repairs performed on the car while in my care that I will be happy to send to anyone who would like to review it. What you are left with is a very stock 1987-S4 that is completely sorted, never wrecked, smoked in or abused. The only items not stock are it has upgraded Porsche turbo wheels in perfect rash free condition with almost new Falken Ziex Z-rated radial tires and I like a wood steering wheel so I installed a brand new Nardi steering wheel. I have the original leather wrapped steering wheel and it comes with the car. The body and paint are beautiful with very little paint chipping anywhere. It has the optional body color painted rear deck spoiler. The underbody and floorpan are immaculate and all underbody fairings are present and in good shape. Body seals are perfect and the doors close like a bank vault. The Connoly leather seat interior is perfect including perfect dash cover protected by a Dash Mat. All accessories work perfect except the D does not light on the cluster as the bulb finally failed. All window, sunroof, electric lock and seat controls work perfect. The original warranty book service records show that the brake pads have very few miles on them. All routine service items are up to date. The car is quiet and tight on the road and very fast. The car is always garaged and kept covered with a California Car Cover fleece cover that goes with the car. It is never driven in cold weather or rain. All tools are present including the aluminum jack and tow hook, mini spare is unused and perfect and a premium quality air compressor comes with the car. I have some special tools for the car including a timing belt tension gage, pressure brake bleeding equipment to facillitate brake fluid changes and custom made lifting racks that allow the car to be lifted properly with a good floor jack as shown in the pictures. I have a huge folder of service records and receipts and some spares that will go with the car. I have the original owners manual, CD service manual, warranty book and radio instructions and all keys and spare keys. This is not your average 928-S4, it has been cared for lovingly and now it needs a new home. I've had the car for 5 years and put under 2,000 miles on it. I've had more fun and spent more time restoring the car than driving it. If you have not guessed yet I am a detail intensive car nut. I'm retired from Ford Motor Research and Engineering and have some other interests I would like to pursue. This is an honest car that will be sold for a reasonable price in the current market so someone else can enjoy it. The car is offered as-is, where is, buyer is responsible for required transportation cost and arrangements. Winning bidder to send $500.00 deposit within 48hrs and payment in full is required within 7 days. Car can be safely stored pending pickup arrangement for not more than 30days. Please contact me to arrange to see and inspect the car or request additional pictures, service file or information via E-Bay Ask Seller a Question or call 810-987-0923 and ask for Dave. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
