Vehicle Detail
1968 Pontiac Lemans. 2 door. 350 H/O engine / turbo 400 transmission. a/c car, bucket seats, 15 inch rally 2 pontiac wheels, newer dual exhaust, b&m shifter. Runs and drives good for 40+ year old car. Needs work to be perfect but can be driven while you fix. It is a California car and has a clean title with current registration until August 2012. Below I will go into detail on each part of the car. This is a Lemans, but would be a Great Candidate for GTO clone !!! Engine/Transmission: Original engine and transmission. New battery. Radiator looks like it has been replaced. Mileage reads 69K. 350 H/O engine, 4 barrel carb. This was the High Output 350 for 1968. It was rated at 320hp. It came with a turbo 400 transmission. The engine and transmission are stock. The car use to have a column shifter but the previous owner moved it to the floor and put a B&M shifter. The engine runs great and has a lot of power. It has a crack in the driver side exhaust manifold and that is the only problem. When it is cold/has sat for a while you have to let it warm up, and if you dont it might die on you once or twice, until you step on the gas and get around a few corners or let it warm up. It still runs good as is, but once the exhaust leak is fixed it will be a lot quieter and smoother. The engine runs great. I'm sure a tune up wouldnt hurt (oil change/spark plugs/ etc) as the car has been sitting for a number of years. It was started and moved from time to time and tinkered with here and there over the years, but for the most part has just been parked and could use someone going through it replacing little stuff and giving it what it needs. The transmission shifts great and works in all gears with no problems. It feels really smooth and has no problem crusing on the freeway around 80-90, but I wouldnt suggest doing that in it until you bleed/adjust the brakes. Brakes/Suspension: It has 4 wheel power drum brakes. They stop but they are old. Everything looks to be working. At the least, this car should have the brakes bled and adjusted, but it depends on what you want to do with the car. You could also put some discs on it or something. The car drives as is and will stop but is not a new car, and is not even a older new car. this is a 1968. if you havent had a old car with old brakes, you will not have fun stopping this thing. but it will stop. These are old drum brakes, they have power assist, but still feels like the flintstones car compared to the newer cars on the road. The suspension feels good like a old car. It floats. It possibly will need something new or replaced here and there but for 40+ years it feels good. Exterior: Paint is original. I know, you can barely tell, doesnt it look great? LOL jk. If you are buying this car, its most likely not for the paint. It is original. You can see the it has surface rust on the hood / trunk / other areas of the body. It is just surface rust and doesnt penetrate. The worst part of the rust is the trunk pan. Depending on what your plans are for this car , that may need to be replaced. There are some holes in the trunk (see pics) . There are some small holes around the back window as well (see pics) . It is common for vinyl top cars to have rust around the rear window, and some may also have trunk pan rust as well, like this car. It comes from water leaking into the back window and then it sits in the trunk, and this is what happens (see pics). Other than the trunk rust and the rear window rust, everything else is surface rust. The bottoms of the doors/fenders/quarter panels are all very solid and show no signs of rust. The floors of the car are in good shape. Underneath the car looks good as well. The car needs some body work to be perfect. I took pictures of each section of the car. Almost each part of the car has something that needs repair, but nothing too serious. This car would be a great candidate for a GTO clone. Please look at the pics to see the description of each part of the car, it is too hard for me to describe into words for each section. Most of the metal is rust free but car has some dents/dings/scratches/hits from through out the years. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will answer them for you. Interior: Original interior, not bad for 40+ years, but not perfect. It has bucket seats. They have some rips but still usable / good to recover (these sell for 500-600+ in the condition they are in). The back seat is nice. All the panels look good for the most part. It could use some new arm rests. The rear deck is gone due to leaking water / sun. The headliner looks good but has a small rip in it. The dash has cracks. No radio. No glove box. Carpet is faded/ ripped on driver side but floors are solid. Speedometer works but gas gauge doesnt. Windshield has a crack in it. The rest of the windows are good. In a box in the trunk is the a/c lower dash piece/duct, ash tray and new trunk weatherstripping. (see pic) Wheels/tires: 15 inch pontiac rally II wheels. They are structurally good but could use a repaint. These rims are worth 250+ in the condition they are in without tires. I dont have the caps or rings. The tires are in good shape, except for one that has some cracks on the outer wall and should be replaced. They all hold air. Exhaust: Dual exhaust with chrome tips. Was replaced a couple years ago. Sounds and looks good. Title/Registration: Clean California title in my name. Registration valid until August 2012. This is a California car. I got it from the owner who had it since the early 90s and it was his friends car before that. This car has spent the majority of the last 20 years sitting in a driveway.
