The Pontiac GTO not only ushered in the whole muscle car era but lead the way as well. In 1968 Pontiac re-styled the GTO and it was awarded MOTOR TREND magazine’s prestigious “Car of the Year”. The public loved it and 87,684 GTO’s were sold that year. Of that number only 5,091 convertibles equipped with automatic transmissions were built. This GTO was sold new at Willis Motor Company of North Canton, Ohio. It was equipped with the following options: · 400 engine- 350 horse power · Turbo 400 automatic transmission · Saf-t-track rear axle- 3:36 ratio · Pushbutton AM radio · Retractable headlamp covers · RH visor vanity mirror · LH remote control outside mirror · Custom seat belts · Custom wheel discs · Console · Electric clock · Power steering · Power brakes · Tinted windshield · Floor mats – front and rear · Dual stage HD air cleaner It was ordered in Solar red with a black interior and black convertible top. This vehicle comes with PHS documentation and a copy of the window sticker. This is a three owner car with only 86,265 miles on the odometer. It has its complete, original, numbers matching drivetrain and the engine appears to have never been removed from the engine compartment. This car for the most part is as it left the factory and un-molested, a difficult thing to find in a forty-four year old muscle car. The car has one repaint that looks to be 25 to 30 years old. There are some rust issues with the car as shown in the pictures. There is rust on the dash panel at both sides in the A pillar area. The frame, floors and trunk are in very solid condition; the current owner pressure washed the underside and painted it with low gloss Rust-Oleum. There has been some repair to bottom of the doors, fenders, deck lid and hood. All body panels are original to the car and can be repaired by a competent body man and do not need replaced. The current owner has made the following upgrades to the vehicle: · New Wheel Vintiques 15x7 rally l wheels, caps, trim rings and lug nuts · New BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires · New fuel pump and original carb was rebuilt · New timing chain and cam gear · Distributor cap, rotor, points and spark plugs · Complete exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers · Convertible boot · New door panels , not installed · Outside door handles · Water pump · New rear bumper · New tail lamp lens · New rear lower control arms and rear sway bar This GTO can be driven as-is and enjoyed or can be cosmetically restored to be a very nice driver quality car or treated to a full frame off restoration and be a fully documented collectors vehicle.
