Vehicle Detail
For your consideration, on offer today is a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 230CE. Finished in DB930 Zilberblau-metallik over Navy cloth, this automobile is in well-preserved and maintained driver condition. Imported right here to Cincinnati in 1995 by its original owners (whom I purchased it from) and always serviced by local Mercedes specialist Precision Motorcars, this is a great running little car and no doubt would make a great beginner vehicle for a Mercedes collector. The paint and coachwork are in very good condition and are entirely original. There are a couple of rust spots to note; namely on the forward edge of the left rear wheel arch and around the forward jack point of the driver’s outer sill panel. Beyond those areas, the remainder of the metalwork is excellent and shows no signs of accident damage ever. The paint is totally original throughout the car and has mellowed nicely with age. The interior is the original Navy cloth and is in very nice condition overall, save for some wear to the outer edge of the driver’s seat bolster—a typical spot on any car. The seats are still supportive and have that characteristic Mercedes springiness which is actually most comfortable on a long jaunt. The dash is largely free from cracks or other aesthetic flaws, however there is a small area where the wood veneer has lifted near the sunroof switch on the center console. Mechanically, the car is excellent. It fires on the first turn of the key, hot or cold, and settles to a nice, smooth idle. This is the M102 four cylinder engine also found in the 190E which has proven capable of running many hundreds of thousands of miles with proper routine maintenance and also returns fuel economy in the upper 20s to low 30s. The transmission shifts faultlessly, the suspension is nice and tight with no untoward noises and the brakes haul the car down effortlessly and without drama and the tires are matching Michelin MXVs with about 75% treadlife remaining. Every single electrical accessory in the car works properly, as well as the air conditioning. Do also note that this car has the manual climate control system, similar to 240D models. This system is basically 100% trouble free due to its sheer simplicity and, as far as I’m concerned, is better than the automatic climate control system at getting the car up to temperature and keeping it there. The exhaust system on this car is a complete stainless setup from Timevalve and is in excellent condition. Being a grey-market import, this example is equipped with power front windows but manual rear windows. It does have an electric sunroof (which works) and still retains its period Grundig AM/FM cassette stereo. As you’ll notice in the photos, the car somehow escaped federalization and still wears its original European headlamps and small bumpers. I believe the original owner brought it in via a military exception, which may have let him get it through without going through the DOT/EPA hassle. Due to grey-market status, VIN is unrecognizable by Ebay, thus the "0's" entered in the description. I’m selling this vehicle (and my Gelandewagen) because I’m shortly going to be moving and will only have room for one car, and I also have an E320 wagon, so that’s going with... If you’re interested in the G-wagen, it is a 2000 G500 that I also bought from the original owner who bought it from Europa. Feel free to call me to discuss (513) 289-5933. I think that’s about everything to note on the 230. If you have specific questions, please don’t hesitate to call or email. The car is in very good shape and I would trust it on a trip across the country in a heartbeat. The original books and manuals are with the car and are stamped by service workshops in Germany and of course by the MB specialist here in the US after it was imported. Service records are on file at the shop and can be obtained at the new owner’s request. Due to the age of the vehicle, it is being sold as-is with no warranties expressed or implied herein. It has been described to the best of my knowledge and I assume no liability for any unknown defects at or thereafter the time of this listing. The clear Ohio title and vehicle will only be released to the new owner upon payment in full. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Thanks for looking and good luck!
