Vehicle Detail

For sale is a 1991 Honda CRX si. 195,xxx miles, manual transmission. I am the third owner, and have had the car since 1998. This car has been rock solid for me, letting me down only once in the 13 years I've owned it. For the past 8 years I've used it once per week to commute to work where it sits for 3-5 days at a time. Some details: The good: All major mechanical bits work fine, The A/C blows cold and has never even needed a re-charge. Driven conservatively this car has not failed to get less than 44 mpg in my mostly highway driving. I've seen as high as 50, but as I said, I drive it very conservatively, your results may vary. When the stock exhaust tip fell off in 2000 (common with civics / CRXs of this era) I replaced the entire system (cat back) with a stainless steel Bosal Brospeed bolt on system. The tip is slightly bigger than standard, but not silly, and the sound is not at all obtrusive or obnoxious. I also have a free flow intake installed with a washable K&N style filter, these two components contribute to the great fuel economy. This has been a tremendously reliable car for me. I've driven coast to coast in multiple times, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again tomorrow. The car was purchased in west Texas and spent most of its life in NM, there is no rust under the wheel wells. Except for a small scratch on the door where the paint peeled and held water, there is no rust at all. I replaced the clutch at 125k. The vast majority of miles since that point are highway. I've had the oil changed roughly every 3-5K miles. With the exception of the intake and exhaust the car is stock, engine, wheels, even the floor mats. To my knowledge, this car has never been in an accident. I replaced the tires in the summer of '09 with long tread wear Pirellis (Discount Tire 85,000 mile warranty) and they have less than 20K miles on them. That said, they're really not sport tires, so if you want to explore the cars full potential, you'll want some more serious rubber. It is one of the last ones that rolled off the production line. (Manufactured in Nov 1991 I believe) Despite having nearly 200K miles the car runs strong and fires up right away. I bought the car from a gentleman who appeared to be in his 50's and as he put it "it runs like a scalded cat". I couldn't have said it better myself. The bad: The distributor went out in 2007 and the entire ignition system was replaced, but the distributor is a non Honda OEM part. (cap, coil and rotor are genuine Honda parts) The non OEM distributor will occasionally send a fault message triggering a check engine light. The car doesn't run any differently with the light on or off. Something about this car screams "smash my windows and steal my radio!" This has happened 3 times to me (never in Colorado). Each time they broke in they did damage; the passenger side window isn't tinted like the rest of the car, and the regulator is damaged, so it sometimes rolls up crooked. I finally just took the handle off (still have it) so that I wouldn't have to mess with it. They also broke the connection between the interior door lock switch and the key side. The door can only be unlocked from the inside now. (there is a small broken plastic part that if replaced would fix this) The rear rotors were turned down during a brake job years ago, and now have a tendency to rust when parked after it has rained or is humid. They break free right away, and still stop the car fine, but lately I have heard an intermittent dragging as the wheel rotates. (at my last service interval I was told that the rear pads are choked with rust) A rear brake job will be needed to cure this. The ugly: There are lots of parking lot dings, and two places where someone gave me more than just a "ding". The pictures will show this. As expected for a parking lot car, the paint is faded. See pictures. The two plastic trim pieces from behind the doors are off. I recovered one (the clips are broken though) but the other is missing. I've not looked into replacing them. The 1st owner was short, and had to slide past the aggressive seat bolsters, so the drivers seat has an ugly hole rubbed in it and is showing foam. I cracked the front left corner lens years ago and never bothered replacing it. The bulb inside still works fine. I know the list of downers is longer than the uppers, but remember, this car is 20 years old, and I'm listing a lot of stuff that is relatively minor. Many people would just leave this stuff unsaid, I just want to be upfront so as not to waste your time or mine. There are not many of these phenomenal cars left that are still in good shape. I really believe that this will likely be the best car I've ever owned, I will miss it sorely. I just don't have the time to invest in the cosmetic TLC that it deserves, and though it makes a fantastic little sports car, and even a good commuter car, its not an ideal family car, and happily, that's where my life is now. I have, and can email more pictures if needed. Thanks for looking!
