Vehicle Detail
Just moved and just don’t have the room to take everything with me. I collect Porsches and on a whim I bought the Thunderbird. Although the "Flair" Birds are some of the prettiest Thunderbirds made (in my opinion), they just don't drive like a Porsche (big surprise, huh?). If you know Thunderbirds then you know this was the top of the line hardtop version. The car has the 390 with automatic. The engine is very strong (no smoke on start up) and the transmission was just serviced. The car has quite a few factory options and features: · A/C ( complete but not working) · Power Vent windows · Power Windows (driver’s side is acting up…passenger is fine) · Power door locks · Swing away wheel · Power driver’s seat · Overhead console · AM/FM radio · Etc. Per the Warranty Plate on the door: Body: "63D" 2 Door Landau (Blind Qtr Vinyl) Body Style Color: "U" Med Turquiose Metallic Exterior Trim: "B7" Turquoise and Parchment Interior Date: "19L" 19 November Build Date DSO: "71" Built for Los Angeles Axle: "1" 3.00:1 Axle Ratio Transmission: "4" C6 3 speed automatic Warranty Number "6Y87Z123859" - Built 1966, Wixom Plant, 2 Door Hardtop, 390 Engine The sequential turn signals work perfectly! The paint is a repaint of the original color and is a 10 footer. Interior looks good….the carpet is very good. The seats need a good cleaning but are in good condition. Dash is excellent as is the interior chrome. All gauges work except the clock. The weather seals around the doors are getting tired and should be replaced. The body is EXTREMELY solid. The car was originally from California and is rust free. There is no rust that I can find. The car was hit on the left rear driver’s side at some point in its life and even though it looks okay it is not perfect. Also, It looks like the car was parked close to someone mowing the yard and the paint was chipped along the lower half of the car. I tried to show a picture. Since I bought the car I have had the ENTIRE brake system replaced. Seriously.....the entire system except for the booster and the proportioning valve. The brake lines were replaced with stainless steel lines from Thunderbird Ranch. Brand new rotors, NEW master cylinder, Rebuilt calipers, New wheel cylinders, New pads, New shoes, and even New brake springs, etc. were just replaced last week with parts from the Bird Nest. This work was over $2000 in parts and labor. You will NOT FIND A BETTER STOPPING THUNDERBIRD than this one. I also replaced the carburetor with a rebuilt CONCOURS quality factory correct Autolite 4100 unit from Pony Carburetors. The carb alone was over $550. Today I installed a new Interstate battery….another $170 New dual exhaust! The tires are very good and the spare has never been on the road. The jack is a restored unit and is like new. Items left: · Clock not working · Car exhibits occasional mild backfire under heavy acceleration. I will probably check it out this weekend. I just got the car back on the road so it needs a tuneup. If not, be aware of it. It has to be simple since everything else is good. · Car needs a headliner. I bought the car without the headliner and don’t notice it. New replacement fiberglass panels are available from a company in Florida or you can look for used ones on this site or others. · It’s a small thing but the car needs new wiper blades. I never drive it in the rain. Buyer is responsible for shipping. Car is sold "as is"
