I've listed the car a few times in the past few months and it has ALMOST reached the reserve on two occasions. However, this time it WILL BE SOLD! Bid your Best - there won't be another chance! 112,000 actual miles. (Mileage may change as I drive this a few days each week.) New tires & brakes. New alternator and CV boot. AC blows cold and heater blows hot. New Paint. Ready to drive or show. Own a piece of Chrysler history! *********************************************************** Here is my 1984 Plymouth Reliant 4-Door Sedan. As plain as "Jane" can get when it comes to 1980's automobiles. Built for economy and simple transportation. Talk about Gas mileage? Lee Iacocca touted 41 MPG in 1984 for this car! I'm getting about 35 MPG or so. Perhaps if I didn't use the A/C it would do much better. This is not a perfect car. Of course, neither are any of the new ones currently being built by ANY manufacturer. For a 27-year-old K-Car, this one is very nice and anyone can tell by looking and driving it that it has been well cared for. For those of you not familiar with these K-Cars, please know that they are NOT known for their power. My father eloquently described the power of the K-car in 1981 as follows: "It wouldn't pull a greasy pig out of a lard bucket!" (John H. Broxterman b.1935; d.2008) May he rest in peace. When I bought this car last year, I flew to New Jersey and drove it back to Florida (about 1200 miles) with very little problems (The A/C didn't work at that time, so I had to drive with the windows down). Personally, I would have no problem getting in this car and driving cross-country. However, I would never recommend this. It runs great out on the highway.....will easily travel at speeds above 70MPH. No ridiculous additional fees of any kind since I am not a dealer. Please read the following information. These are my own personal opinions of the car. I recommend that you come to look at it, drive it, or have your mechanic do the same before placing a bid. I have rated each component with a 1 through 6. 1=Perfect in every way; 3=Driveable/workable as is; 5=needs attention; 6=junk. Exterior - 2. Very Good to Excellent new repaint of the original Glacier Blue metallic. Very good job that holds a nice shine. There are a few parking lot dings and a small dent in one of the doors. A few imperfect spots near the rocker panels. Nothing major. Just feel the need to mention it. Interior - 2. Excellent original blue cloth seats and carpet. Headliner is like new. The dashboards on these were known to warp or crack. However, this one appears as though the car was garaged most of its life. No cracks or warping here. AM/FM radio/clock works great. All windows open and close properly (manual, of course). Horn works. All electronics work as they should. No fancy stuff like cruise control or anything. But, it does have a windshield washer that works. In early July of this year, while driving here in Lakeland, FL, I watched the odometer advance from 109,999 to 100,000 miles instead of 110,000. I have no clue as to why it did this. It simply skipped the second "1" in the series. So, the odometer currently reads 101,xxx instead of the correct 111,xxx. Chassis - 2. Even though the car spent its first 26 years in Pennsylvania before coming to Florida. It must have been garaged during the winter months as the undercarriage is sturdy and appears rust free. There were only 2 spots in the rocker panels that were filled in when it was painted. Each was about 2 to 3 inches in diameter. Tires & Wheels - 2. Well over 90% tread remaining on these TBC Tempest tires. Wheels are in excellent condition. A few dings here and there on the hubcaps. But, they will hold a nice shine. Engine compartment - 3. Dirty. But, presentable. 2.2 liter 4-cylinder engine runs good after normal warm-up. Remember, this is a carbureted engine - no fuel injection here. At first start up in the morning you pump the accelerator pedal once, then turn the key. Let the engine run a few minutes to warm up before starting out. A whopping 82 horsepower! You might see a drop or two of oil after a night in the garage. But, I noticed that this went away after driving it daily for a week. Transmission - 1.5. It operates just fine. Smooth as silk. Smooth gear changes and downshifts when needed. Operates as it was intended. Electronics - 1.5. Converted to new 134A - AC Blows Cold/Heater blows warm ~ "It'll Runyaoutathere!" (Dad again) Headlights/taillights/turn signals/backup lights/interior lights/lighter/radio....etc. all work as they should. Trunk - 1.5. Very nice and clean. Still has the original jack! Spare tire has plenty of tread. Original spare tire cover with jack instructions are present. Original Jack instructions also still attached to the inside of the trunk lid.. Overall, I would rate the car a 2. A daily driver that could also be used as a show car. (Which I do occasionally.) ALSO INCLUDES: THE ORIGINAL TITLE!!! (laminated per direction of the BMV) Along with the current clear Florida title, I will also include the original Pennsylvania "INITIAL TITLE 1984" so marked. This was obtained from the original owner (Mrs. Carmen Heimpel) by me. The story goes: The original owner - now in her 90's - lost the title during a move from her home to living with her daughter. After going through the BMV to get all the required paperwork to sell it through the dealer from which I bought it, she found the title - but, was embarrassed to produce it after "...all that fuss about getting the right paperwork. They (referring to the state of Pennsylvania employees at her local BMV office) knew it was my little Plymouth! I'd been going there for over 40 years with my cars to get 'em registered! I'm the only one that's ever driven it 'cept for my husband. And he died in '95. So I just kep' it when I found it in the satchel. He bought it for me on our 48th anniversary. I hope you take care of Bessie. She was a real good little car." - Mrs. Heimpel of Hellertown, PA. (2010) You also get the Owner's Manual and Service Manual. And, of course, the original ignition and trunk keys with an authentic Plymouth Reliant key fob. NOTE: The Army Recruiting magnets on the sides of the car in the last few photos are not included. I used this as a show car at local events. I had one of these when I was an Army Recruiter in the 1980's and fixed this one up to look like it. The front license plate (Army - Be All You Can Be), and the US Government plate are also not included in this sale. I am a college professor and occasionally drive this to campus. The students really love this little car. They are amazed when I tell them the gas mileage! The following maintenance has been performed recently - (in addition to regular oil/filter/lubes at 3000 mile intervals): April 2010 - New tires purchased at 108,677 miles. April 2010 - New spark plugs at 109,139 miles. March 2011 - New brakes and fluid at 109,648 miles. April 2011 - New paint at 109,700 miles. April 2011 - A/C converted to R134 at 109,750 miles July 2011 - Regular oil change; radiator flush; new wipers at 110,000 miles. October 2011 - New alternator. New CV Boot. These records will be included with the sale of the car. Clear Florida title in hand. I make this promise: If you are the winning bidder and choose to not buy the car after coming to get it after the auction ends - you are not under any commitment to buy it. I will refund your deposit and relist the car or offer it to the next highest bidder. NOTE: I am the second owner! Confirmed through AutoCheck. Please call me with questions at 863-899-9115 or to request approval to bid if you meet the criteria posted at the top of this page. Ask for Doctor B. If you are the winning bidder, please make your $200.00 deposit via Paypal within 24 hours of the end of the auction unless otherwise discussed with me. FYI: I am not, nor have I ever been a car dealer. Simply, I like to periodically buy cars - drive and enjoy them (never race or drive stupidly) - fix them up if needed - then, sell them here on eBay so I can buy another one to fool around with. I also collect antique cars and have been a life member of the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) for as long as I can remember. Visit their site: www.aaca.org I wish you the best with your bids. Have fun! Paypal deposit must be received within 24 hours of the auction's end date unless otherwise coordinated with us beforehand.
