The Toy Barn of Dublin Presents: 1989 Lotus Esprit Turbo With exotic lines and blistering acceleration, the '89 Esprit Turbo was a solid representation of 80's exotic. Though only 228 horsepower, this car moved at an alarming rate for it's time period, blazing a trail to 60 mph in only 5 seconds, and topping out at 160 mph. The artistically-designed, hand built Esprit has always been a staple for handling, with race inspiration and daydreams of canyon carving. The 1989 model, however was the start of an evolution of the Esprit becoming streetable as well as track ready. With improved performance, ergonomics, and handling, the Lotus Esprit celebrated the end of a decade as one of the fastest cars on the road. Why buy this Esprit? Beautiful condition, ultra-low miles, and clean. This Esprit was just taken in on trade here at our store, towards a Porsche GT3. The owner actually purchased this car from us pre-owned about 4 years ago, and drove it less than 1000 miles over his ownership period. The car only has 33,000 original miles, and it shows, with glossy paint and very clean interior. The engine sounds good, and the turbo boosts well; on the road this Lotus accelerates strong, brakes great, and rides and handles like a low mile dream machine of the 80's. After a several-mile, 25-minute drive, I was actually impressed by how tight and solid the car felt. I can't imagine finding an '89 much nicer than this, and this one is being offered for a VERY reasonable cost. This could be about the best deal you'll find on one. Of course, this Lotus is a 1989, and isn't perfect. In bold sunlight, you can see the paint isn't quite as "red" as it probably was brand new. It looks great though, and is still very glossy. The tires have ample tread life remaining, but are a little older. The shift boot has a small tear in it, and the passenger power window and side view mirror are inoperable. Seems to be minor fixes, and the good thing is, the way this car looks, feels, and drives more than makes up for the imperfections. This Lotus isn't a "perfect 10", but is certainly a strong 8.0+, and will make someone a fantastic exotic for not much money. It boasts a perfect history CARFAX report, The car has a clean Ohio title, and has actual miles.
