Vehicle Detail
Here is my 1971 Volkswagen Bus. I don't want to get rid of it, but we are strapped for the money right now. Here is the story behind the Bus... I bought the Bus August of 2010 from a local salvage yard. It was complete with engine and I bought it as a "non-runner". The yard had no idea what the problem was. Once I got it home, one of my VW buddies and I saw melted and shorted wiring under the steering column and a push button. I cleaned up the wires and bought an EMPI ignition switch and the engine started right up. The stock ignition switch is gone and I have the EMPI still in place. We took the engine out and did a full restoration on The Bus. I painted it Hugger Orange (it looks more red in the pictures, but it is orange) with an off white roof. My wife did the interior from scratch. The battery tray and part of the drivers side floor were rusted through. I used POR 15 and their repair mesh to fix that up. You can bang away on it with a hammer... it's solid. While I had the POR 15 out, I coated the entire floor with it, too. The body is straight. The nose had a couple of dents that we pulled out and used bondo to smooth it all out. I have gone over this Bus with a fine tooth comb. It is supposed to go on a California Salvage title (since I bought it at a salvage yard, I guess) so it needs a brake and lamp inspection. I have replaced all the brakes (front and rear), all the lamps and lenses (the ones that were cracked or non-working) that needed to be replaced were replaced. I got the correct engine manifold for the front power disc brakes. Shift linkage has been replaced, as well as bushings. Transmission works in all gears New windshield and I replaced all window rubbers. I have new tires to put on, too. After we did the restoration, we put the engine back in and noticed it leaking a lot of oil but I have to say I drove it around the block and it drove BEAUTIFULLY!). We took the engine back out and the case was cracked. My buddy (mentioned above) rebuilt the engine for me. It took months for him to do this as I didn't have money for this unexpected expense (I paid him as we went along). So you are getting a newly rebuilt 1600 (actually, he says he used slightly bigger cylinders so it is between a 1600 and 1700 cc engine) dual port engine. I also added an alternator, bypassing the voltage regulator. Running a rebuilt EMPI 34 PICT 3 carb (Which I was using on my Bug for a bit) and a 009 distributor. The Bus has been sitting in my driveway for about 8 months while the engine was being rebuilt. It was not used for storage, as a clubhouse or anything. We had it locked up and didn't want it messed with until we got the engine going... I have the paperwork from California DMV, but they would not title it last year as it needs the brake and lamp inspection. But I have the preliminary paperwork from them. I will also provide a bill of sale. This, from what I can tell, looks like a lifelong California car. No cancer that I can find, only what I mentioned earlier. The 1971 Bus is the most desirable Bay Window Bus, as it is the last year of the 1600 CC upright engine and first year for stock front power disc brakes. This is a great investment vehicle. The engine runs great. You will want to make sure all the lights and brakes are up to standard. As mentioned I made all the replacements/repairs but it will be up to you to make sure they work correctly for inspection!!!! Please see pictures for more detail and PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS! PLEASE LOOK AT ALL PICTURES AND VIDEO BELOW!!!! CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS: YOU WILL NEED TO FINISH UP THE BRAKE AND LAMP INSPECTION. IF YOU HAVE ZERO FEEDBACK, I WILL EXTEND EVERY COURTESY TO YOU IF YOU ARE A NEW USER, BUT PLEASE FOLLOW THROUGH ON FINALIZING YOUR PURCHASE... YOU WILL NEED TO REPLY TO THE INVOICE I SEND YOU WITHIN 24 HOURS OF RECEIPT. PAYMENT: I REQUIRE A $500.00 DEPOSIT OR FULL PAYMENT THROUGH PAYPAL AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. IF YOU MAKE THE $500.00 DEPOSIT AND WANT TO PAY ME WHEN YOU PICK UP THE BUS, I WILL ONLY ACCEPT CASH. I HAVE TRIED SELLING PERSONAL VEHICLES ON EBAY BEFORE AND EITHER THE DEAL WENT THROUGH FINE, OR I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED BY "NEW" EBAYERS THAT JUST WANT TO WASTE MY TIME. I HAVE BILLS TO PAY AND I KNOW THIS SOUNDS HARSH, BUT I HAVE NO TIME FOR SCAMMERS OR TIME WASTERS. IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THROUGH, I WILL OPEN AN EBAY CLAIM WHICH WILL ONLY WASTE MY TIME AND REFLECT POORLY ON YOUR EBAY HISTORY YOU, AS THE BUYER, WILL NEED TO ARRANGE FOR PICKING THIS UP. IT WILL NOT BE REGISTERED AND IT HAS A ZERO MILE ENGINE THAT WILL NEED TO BE BROKEN IN. YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO PICK THIS UP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
