I have owned this car since 1988, it is in original condition. I lived in the Daytona Beach area for 13 years and this car was on display at the Daytona Speedway for several years. It has given my wife and I many years of pleasure, as I rise into my 60’s I feel like it is time to find her a new home. This is a very rare Special Edition car, and should appeal to the discriminating collector of cars with an eye to strong future financial gain, as they say gold has never been worth zero, Special Edition muscle cars are in the same class. The vehicle needs a new heater core & the tires are not original. The air conditioning is original R-12, the leak needs to be found and re-charged, or converted to R-134a, I’ll leave this to the new owner, as I did not want to affect originality. This car is in original, non-restored condition, which means it is not in perfect condition, there are some blemishes to the paint and body. There has been new factory parts installed to replace wear parts, such as new factory carb (I still have the original), belts, hoses, brakes, Monroe gas-matic shocks, new 4-core radiator, AC Delco water pump with thermal clutch-fan & a new fuel pump. The turbo works flawlessly. All gauges work perfectly including the clock. The pictures do not show the four chrome center caps that are in new condition. Released around February 1981 with a $12,244 base price. This Special Edition Firebird Trans Am paced the field of stock cars at the 23rd running of the 1981 Daytona 500. The race was won by Richard Petty, his 7th and last Daytona 500 win. Only 2,000 Daytona 500 Turbo Trans Am Special Editions where built in '81 which makes this one of the most rare, limited editions GM ever made. They have red carpeting and red instrument lighting. The exterior has two-tone black on white paint scheme, black Fisher T-top hatch roof. The NASCAR Trans Am's of '81 featured a re-designed screaming phoenix used with the turbo hood. Specific NASCAR decals on front fenders, Recaro T/A door handle inserts and hood mounted 3-stage turbo boost indicator panel.
