Vehicle Detail

Again, due to an unregistered buyer on eBay clicking the Buy it Now button (second time this has happened), I am re listing this, sorry for the inconvenience: This is a completely custom Bugster I built for my father for his 60th birthday. No kit here, this is one of a kind, costum, I did all the work myself. I designed it after a cross of the Porsche 356 speedster and the old 30's roadsters. I have a few pictures of what I started with and thru the design and building process I will send to whom ever wins. My father has decided he does not have the time for it and has asked for me to sell it for him so someone else can enjoy it. I would love to keep it myself, but a two seat buggy is not practical as I have started a family, I have no room for it and am in the military so I would have to move it every couple of years. This was built from a 1974 Sun Bug Sedan. I did extensive work on it; chopped the roof off, it has a ¾ height windshield, suicide doors with custom hinges, bear claw latches, 1.5" wider front (with original early headlights) with turn signals where the driving lights were) and 3" wider rear fiberglass fenders (with custom tail lights). Half rear lid (frenched license plate housing with vents) with a handmade (using ribs and sheet panel metal) rear valance leading forward to the 'cockpit'. It has Porsche 'phone dial' rims (different back spacing on rear and front) with low profile Kumho Ecsta 711 205/50R15 and Hoosier Pro Steet Radial 27x10.50R15 tires in the rear. It has dropped spindles on the front with disc brakes. Cloth bridal look seats and 4 point harness. It has the normal custom gauges (oil pressure, temp, tach, etc..) all VDO and the early VW speedometer (the mileage is what was on it when I bought the gauge, not the actual). A Momo style steering wheel with the horn button matching the Moose Head beer tap shifter. Battery isolator switch key. Aluminum sport pedals. Kenwood CD/stereo and pioneer speakers and directional tweeters . Two piece front bra (only the hood part is shown in the picture. Floors completely replaced with heavy duty cabriolet support rails, covered with Eastwood's chassis black. 90% of all the bolts have been replaced, all the brake lines (also SS flex lines) and installed urethane bushings. The engine is a 1641cc that I just put in. I have only put about 50 miles on it. It needs tuning and adjustment on the carb as it does not idle (brand new SOLEX 34 PICT). Also there is an issue with it overheating with the engine cover on in hot weather, needs more louvers / vents, I normally drive with it off and move the license plate underneath. I have also noticed that the oil presure seems low once hot, might need the oil pump changed or the sending unit needs replacing, good pressure at start up. This also comes with two extra low profile Kuhmo Ecsta tires (same as front) and one more Porsche 'Phone Dial' rim I was going to use as a matching spare (paint needs to be striped and polished). All the heavy, labor intensive work has been completed, just needs someone to put on the finishing touches. The paint should be re-done (my opinion) - it is light in some spots, a few scratches on the edges of the fenders and there are a few bubbles in the paint. The paint is chipped around the rear view mirror, around the front license plate, and above the rear license plate. The only rust is in these few paint chips and are only surface. There is a small dent in the driver's door, front lower corner. Windshield has a crack on driver side. I had a question about driving condition ability to Atlanta, GA, when I posted it last, my response was - No, I would not drive it to Atlanta; the engine, as I said, I recently put it in and it needs to be tuned and the normal break-in period. I have driven it to work a hand full of times prior to posting this with this engine, but that is only about 7 miles. The carburator is new, and I have re-set the jets a dozen times but it will not idle right: it idles on start, runs for a few short period, slows down and will stall out. If you keep your foot on the gas and give it some gas it will keep going, but would be a pain for any distance. Lack of a top would keep it intrested if the weather turned rainy. I have towed it 350 miles with a 'A' frame VW tow bar with no issue, so I would use one of those or a trailer. This gets a lot of looks and comments and it's fun to drive.
