Vehicle Detail
1963 Volvo P1800 California Black Tag Restoration Candidate - The title is clear and registration is current, and so I can guarantee that the 1963 black California tags go with the vehicle! Chassis #4367. NO RESERVE. This car went out of service in 1985, when it got moved to the desert outside of Riverside, CA, and that's where it sat for 25 years. I bought it thinking I would restore it (as I have a red identical twin), but since I cannot get to it, I thought I would sell it to someone who would. If you want to restore an early P1800, this is the car because you know where it has been, and the rust is minimal because of the desert storage. As far as I can tell, this car is straight and was never hit. It was, essentially, brought in its non-working condition from the desert to my garage at my home. I have only vacuumed it out and done some inspection, but no work on it. The best thing about this car is that it is nearly complete. The only items that I know are missing are 1) the radiator; 2) the hub caps; 3) the c-pillar Volvo emblems; and 4) the heater blower, but those are the only things I know of. It only came with 4 original Jensen wheels, but I am adding a fifth Jensen spare as well. All the little chrome interior parts are there as well as the big brass chrome on the outside (including grille surround, bull horn bumpers, and side chrome). The egg crate grille looks good. This car really is a really nice restoration candidate. The car is on jackstands in my garage, and is available for inspection in Encinitas, CA (North San Diego County) if you want to inspect it. If you have questions or want to see it, call 760-456-5412 and leave a message, and I'll call you back. If you want additional photos, I have additional photos of the floor pans (from the bottom of the car) as well as the gas tank/rear from the bottom of the car. Just call me and leave me your email address and I will send them to you. You will see in the photos that I took off some of the chrome so that I could inspect the condition of the car, but all the parts go with the car. OVERSEAS BUYERS - I WILL WORK WITH YOUR SHIPPER. Encinitas is only about 100 miles from the port of Los Angeles. I know a local shipping company that handles the shipment of Volvos to Europe and elsewhere (Martin Transports International), and they can provide pricing. If you have another shipper, I will coordinate with them for pickup of the vehicle. If you are overseas and are using the ports or Los Angeles or San Diego, I may be able to assist (at reasonable compensation) with getting the car to your shipper. Known issues: Two small areas of rust on fenders near wheel well (passenger front and driver rear). I obtained a piece of fender from another parts car for the driver rear piece (shown in photo). The other panel is available at low cost. The battery box also is rusted, but these are also available. Slight surface rust under the two front spears. I took the driver side off to inspect it, and it was just on the surface, probably due to debris getting caught in the spear. Trunk pan rust - apparently there were rodents living in the trunk and their nest right on top of the gas tank means that the gas tank needs to be replaced and the trunk floor needs some rust treatment. The bull horn bumpers have a few dings. Apparently, the previous owner moved the cars around with a forklift or something like that. The bullhorn bumpers have some dings, and the grille surround has two dimples where the bullhorns were pushed into it. However, the bumper support looks straight. The motor is frozen, but all the parts (fuel pump, generator, starter, SU carbs) are there. I have not taken any steps to do any mechanical work on the vehicle. I started to take off the chrome to inspect and prepare the body for painting, but that is as far as I got. The interior had been redone in tan (rather than the correct red), but the desert heat has cooked the interior, so this will need to be redone. I took off a couple of the door panels for inspection, but the panels are set aside and come with the car so that you can use them as templates if you need them. CONDITION: AS-IS, no warranties. I have not attempted to check the condition of any of the mechanics, gauges, etc. They are as they were when I bought the car. Initial payment of $500 to be made within 72 hours of purchase. Unless otherwise agreed to in advance, the remaining payment and pickup of the car is to be made within 7 days. Consideration will be made for overseas shipping arrangements, but full payment must be made within 7 days. Seller reserves the right to cancel auction early for local SoCal sale.
