Vehicle Detail
1985 Westfield Lotus 7 I am delighted to offer this spectacular example of Westfield’s tribute to one of Britain’s seminal sport’s cars. Today’s Super 7 cars, with their blend of traditional styling and ultramodern components, trace their lineage to an original 1950s-era Colin Chapman design. Born in London in 1928, Chapman studied structural engineering, earned his pilot’s wings with the Royal Air Force, and went on to become one of the great innovators in motorsports design. A highly successful race driver, Chapman founded Lotus Engineering Ltd. in 1952. Chapman’s vision of light, powerful cars and performance suspensions guided much of his development work, and in 1957 Lotus debuted the 7 at the Earl’s Court Motor Show in London. Westfield Sports Cars Ltd. has been in the business of honouring Chapman’s designs since 1983, starting with a Lotus XI replica before developing their highly acclaimed 7. A controversial lawsuit brought by the licensed Lotus 7 continuation manufacturer, Caterham cars, effectively halted production of the Westfield cars, which were thought by many to be superior. This vehicle is number 52 of 132 cars produced pre-litigation. The approximate number of Westfield Pre-Lit 7 component cars shipped to the USA is reported to be only 20. The vehicle offered is a fantastic example set up for race purpose, although it is California registered, as a 1985 SPCNS Westfield and is exempt from smog. Brookland wind screens See extra parts photo, including dry sump parts, water pumps, many new rear brake shoes, gaskets, replacement starter motor (to upgrade from Lucas), exhaust shield, wheel bearings, and more… I purchased the car from supposedly the third owner, with a view to racing it occasionally, but personal circumstances dictate that it must go. He was a mature driver , not looking for podium finishes, but just out for fun. He kept the car professionally maintained and cared for by a local race shop. The general condition is very good. The interior carpet around the tunnel lets the car down, but an easy and cheap fix if the car is to be used for road use. Here is a great opportunity to acquire a turn-key race package, or a road car to turn heads and have a blast with.
