Vehicle relisted with a lower reserve price!!!! I am finally, though regrettably selling my much loved 1980 Mercedes Benz 230 G. This vehicle was successfully imported into the US and updated to the current, at the time, DOT standards by Europa. I have owned this vehicle for approximately 13 years and have enjoyed every moment of driving this vehicle. The arrival of a baby has coerced me into selling. If you are looking at this listing I am assuming that you know what the W460 G-Wagens are all about. This is nothing like the current G 500 soccer mom, mall cruiser SUV's of today, rather it is a truly capable off-road vehicle that has a very close lineage to the original military trucks that they were first designed to be. I am in no way knocking the off road abilities of the current G-Wagens in any way, BTW. Currently, this vehicle needs some TLC that I have no time for. This list includes but is not all inclusive of the little things that I've grown to live with over the years. Rather, I am trying to disclose all the things that need to be addressed to bring it back to its off-roading glory: THE GREAT: Transmission is strong, 2nd gear syncro has a little wear though but it does go into every gear without much effort. 2nd gear grinds occasionally during a fast shift. Transfer case is strong Truck starts and runs every time (Even to my own surprise on those really cold days and after it has sat for weeks, pretty amazing actually) The cylinder head was remachined and gone through about 10 years ago. Pertronix installed for reliability The vehicle had front, middle and rear wiring harness replaced about 10 years ago The floor pans were cut out and fresh steel went in. Catalyst equipped to pass Emissions in the state of Tennessee Tires are still in very good condition. No rust on spring perches. Frame in great condition. I'm throwing in the Thule Roof Rack system mounted on the truck. THE NOT SO GREAT: I cannot confirm the exact mileage on the truck as the odometer rolls over at 100.000 miles. It is currently showing 26,XXX miles. The hydraulic differential locker system no longer holds fluid and therefore no pressure The exhaust system does need to be replaced There is rust on the vehicle and has perforated the sheet metal in spots, especially the panel below the rear "Barn Doors" as well as the passenger side rocker panel. Spare tire and its carrier come with the vehicle but is no longer attached to vehicle due to rust. (Original Michelin) There is no longer any carpeting, it was Herculined years ago There is no longer a headliner There are missing interior panels Dash bezels are cracked due to age, headlamp switch will not fix into dash bezel Glovebox not securely mounted Valve cover gasket weeps oil Rear passenger safety belts are included with vehicle but are not mounted. I believe I have listed the major issues with this truck but again, this list is not all-inclusive. This is a 31 year old vehicle so bid accordingly with that in mind and hopefully you may be the new owner of this truly unique truck. I still love to drive it on warm summer days and evenings. I will miss this truck very much. The one down side to driving this truck is having to answer questions about it wherever I go. "Is THAT a real Mercedes?" I have the CLEAN title in hand and will be able to sign it over as soon as I receive full payment of the vehicle. I do require a $500 deposit within 48 hours after the close of auction and the remaining balance 10 days after close of auction.
