Vehicle Detail
This is a good-looking classic and has always been, and remains, a great driver. This is the "big-6", i.e. the 4.2 L inline 6-cylinder engine. Of course it has the manual 4-speed transmission. It has always been, and remains, the favorite color for this car: British Racing Green. I am the 3rd owner of this car and have owned it for 28 years. It has been kept garaged by me and by its previous owners since the day it was born. I am a non-smoker as were the previous owners. It has very low mileage (58,480), the engine is very clean (see photos) and every mechanic who has done work on the car has been impressed by the high engine compression this car has retained. As you can probably tell, I love this car and I'm only selling it because I have bills I must pay; such is life. The convertible top is about two years old and looks and works like new; the rear window is nice and clear. It has 4 new, proper Vredestein tires mounted which have fewer than 100 miles on them. The wheels are the original Jaguar wire wheels (of course!) and the spare wire wheel in the trunk is also the original. (The tire currently mounted on the spare wheel is not usable.) I also have the copper-headed knock-off mallet which came with the car and two useful handbooks for the car. I had the bumpers re-chromed just over a year ago and I replaced the gas tank about 5 years ago. The tan leather interior looks good and is comfortable although it shows some wear. The dash is all original except for the dash top cover; I had it covered in black vinyl a year ago to match the rest. I have since learned that new, perfect, original manufacture dash top covers are available for the car if the new owner chooses to replace it. The exhaust system beneath the body is rusted out and if I were to keep it I'd replace it. There is some normal rust on the underside. The rear view mirror rattles a bit in its frame and I would fix that too if I were to keep the car. I installed a CD player; the changer is behind the passenger seat. The car was painted a year ago using the proper DuPont paint. Although the car looks very good from a couple of steps away, I am disappointed in the shop that painted the car. Close inspection, especially in out-of-the-way places such as inside the door closure faces, shows that they could have done a better job. They also missed some frame members in the engine compartment so these are now flat black as can be seen in one of the photos. They also did a poor job of remounting the doors, hood and trunk; the could stand adjustment. They also did not use much of the new OEM body rubber kit that I had provided to them. So the new owner will get the remainder of the rubber kit as well. Although I love the car because it is such a good driver, it is also a good candidate for full restoration due the the drive train and because it is already so close to being fully original. - I'll be taking some more interior photos and some photos of the trunk interior Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. - I will try to answer any questions as well as I can and as soon as I can. [This car was previously on auction here a few weeks ago so some of you may remember it. I cancelled the auction because in the middle of it the clutch slave cylinder failed making the car impossible to drive. It has now been rebuilt and ready to bring joy to a new Jag-lover!]On Sep-01-11 at 17:12:14 PDT, seller added the following information:Updates: 1. I can't find the copper-headed knock-off mallet. 2. The dash clock isn't working and although the dash Engine Temp Gauge works I have the wrong Engine Temp Sensor installed. 3. Compression ratio is 9:1. 4. I have a series of 3 photos showing the trunk stripped bare so that you can see the metal there is in good shape, another of the spare wheel (inverted) in the trunk and one with the trunk interior re-dressed. But eBay won't allow me to add them so if you want to see them let me know and I will email them.
