Vehicle Detail

1968 Chevrolet C-20 NO RESERVE ON THIS CLASSIC WORK TRUCKStandard Cab Long bed V8 (swapped-in) smallblock Chevrolet engine (specifics unknown) Muncie Three Speed Manual (fell off the tree - two sticks on the floor) Custom Chrome Stack Exhaust Runs & drives fine... just doesn't start right now due to electrical problem Eligible candidate for work truck, project truck, parts truck, lawn ornament... what's your pleasure? Background: I've always loved 1969-1972 Chevy Trucks, just like you. I finally picked this one up at a farm auction last Fall. The engine ran strong, it shifted and drove just fine, and just plain looked the part of a classic farm truck - which was exactly what I wanted. I envisioned a few years of driving it to and from 11 beautiful acres of woodland along the St. Joe River where I was clearing a section of land for our dream home and my dream shop/garage where I'd restore it someday. The dream was alive for a while. The old truck and I made a few trips out to cut and haul wood, drag stumps out, etc. But one evening this Spring when I returned home and backed in the driveway to unload my chain saw etc., I turned the engine off but apparently left the key on, and the jerry-rigged wiring from the old farmer's DIY engine swap shorted out, melting the wires at the ignition (I have a new pigtail for the ignition, but it needs to be reconnected. I simply don't have the know-how.) So... The truck hasn't been started in a few months, I'm broke and unemployed, and this truck just wants to go back to work. Give it a good home. Walk-Around: Exterior: Better than one would expect from an original, unrestored 37-year old work truck, but folks, it's a 37-year-old unrestored work truck. There are minor dings, major dings, minor dents, rust in the expected places, and yes, some rust-through in the expected places (interior footwell corners, cab corners, and around wheel wells where trim pcs were). I removed all of the trim pieces, around grill & lights in front, including "Chevrolet" letters on hood, trim on sides, etc... in anticipation of doing a quick sand & spray in black. About 90% of the total exterior trim pcs are there, and about 90% of those are usable, mind you they aren't perfect, but if you know these trucks you know how expensive these are. Obviously I didn't complete the sand & spray, (as evidenced by the interesting "grafitti" and remnants of stickers applied over the years) ...at this point it could be seen as a "cover up" attempt, and I'd rather you see exactly what you're getting - and besides, you might not want a black truck. Interior: Again, it's a 37-year-old work truck, etc. etc. Again, there is rust-through at the corners. A hole was cut in the floorboard center by the previous owner to accomodate his unique conversion from a 3-speed on the column to a two-stick-three-speed on the floor. Good stuff: The dash elements are uncut and in good shape, original radio, etc. as are the interior door panels (no cuts for speakers). Glass is good, etc. As picture shows, I pulled the bench seat and removed all of the carpeting to clean up the interior. Didn't get to the next steps of throwing in tin or replacement metal on corners, etc. but it's ready to repair or harvest parts from. Bed: You probably already know what's coming... 37-year-old work truck. yup. Bed shows it. Absolutely functional, but dented, dinged and rusty. Steel floor. If you're looking for something with a polished oak bed you're in the wrong place. Other: I picked up some used BFG All-Terrain T/A's - you can see I installed them up front on re-painted (silver) rims and (black) hubs and they look awesome. Haven't gotten to the backs yet - but the tires and paint for the rims will go with the truck. Also bought a new pigtail for ignition and some wiring supplies to fix electrical issue - that goes too. I'm working for you this week - ready to answer any questions or post more pictures at your request. Bid early and often. Of course I listed it locally too so I reserve the right to end the auction and all that stuff we all have to say.On Aug-25-11 at 18:51:08 PDT, seller added the following information: 8/25 Thursday night update: Less than 2 days left to bid on this '68 Chevy! Here are some corrections, updates and answers to recent questions: HOW OLD IS IT? An astute bidder pointed out that my math stinks... this isn't a "37-year-old-truck" as I stated in the description... THIS IS A 43-YEAR-OLD TRUCK! (In fairness, my math isn't that bad, I just got a little mixed up as I'm also selling a boat (ALSO AT NO RESERVE) that's 37-years-old... check out my other auctions and keep watching - all the toys are going! ADDITIONAL PICTURES - I'm about to try to add a few pictures of the underside of the truck to answer questions about it's condition. I'll describe them in some more detail after I successfully download them.
