Vehicle Detail
In 1949, Cadillac introduced its new overhead valve V8 engine that was more compact and lighter than its predecessor was. This basic engine would power Cadillac models through the late 1970s. There were four Cadillac series offered in 1949 with the most popular being the Series 62, available in Sedan, Coupe, Coupe Deville and Convertible Coupe form. The Convertible Coupe came standard with power-operated windows and an upgraded interior. This has been my most proud possession of things. This vehicle is a looker the engine was rebuilt in early 2002 I do have a copy of the receipt the Transmission was rebuilt at the same time however I cannot find that receipt. The car has not been started for 1+ years and I dought that it has been driven 500 miles since the work was completed. I also had Air Conditioning installed in the car which does not conform to factory specs but in Arizona in the Summer time it is wonderful. This Air Conditioning has dual blowers one for the front and one for the back. This car is not small inside and with both blowers going you could get a chill. ;) Ok now for the known problems, The transmission shifter does go into the gear that is shown, I hope that it is nothing but the neutral switch, I am not a technician so do not hold me to that. The hydraulic window hoses cracked and were leaking and had them repaired. The battery is completely flat will need a new one, we will try to charge this one to see if it holds a charge, if not i will replace the battery. The speedometer works but the odometer does not, so the true miles are unknown, the radio light up but no sound or static. I purchased a sun visor for the outside of the windshield and never had it installed it is still in the trunk rapped up. Other than those items I believe the car is in good shape, the last time i drove the car I did have it on the freeway and was running at or about 60, and just as you would think the big car ride was there, you know floating. Window down, arm cocked up on the door watches people pass me and look with a big smile. Please ask your questions or concerns about this Cadillac. I did receive a note from another Ebayer about this car. You are correct--there were four series in 1949. Series 61, 62, 60S, and 75. Yours is a 60S (or more referred to as a 60 Special). It was considerably more expensive and longer than the Series 62. It is also more desireable. (I'm a former AACA judge--specializing in Cadillacs and Lincolns.) Sincerely--Zacharias
