Vehicle Detail
95 Ford Ranger 4X4. This has been my summer kick around, home depot and lowes run vehicle. Boy did it do a nice job. Never let me down. Shifts easily, and can carry a ton. Literally! I put a ton of rock in it one time and it drove like a champ. In fact the guy loading it said he thought I had newer springs as it carried so well. Let me give you a brief description. It was camoed to a certain extent before I got it. It needs to be finished out in my opinion, with maybe spots the way they do it, but works well the way it is. It has a few things worth noting, that could be fixed, but nothing at all really that affects the drivability. I got it inspected the first of the summer and promply thereafter, had no wipers or horn. I think they must be on the same wavelength. I checked out the fuses, without a diagram, but couldn't locate one that seemed to be not working. It seems like it has an extra one of the big ones in the glove compartment, and probably should be checked over by whoever is buying before getting a mechanic involved, as it might be minor. Could be wiring, I don't know. Could be wiper motor, but why both the horn and wipers at the same time? I don't know. The latch for the hood is a wire surrounded by hard plastic. In other words the handle is gone, and you have to use small vise grips to pull out the wires in the middle to open the hood. It is a hassle, but I didn't have time to fix. It works however. Vice grips are in the side pocket for handy use when needed. Mechanically everything is sound, except that between engagements of the clutch, there is a spinning of the flywheel, and you can hear a slight sound. I asked the mechanic about this, and he said there was nothing adjustable on the clutch, as I thought it might need a new clutch. He said that would mean dropping the transmission, and the price was $$$$ Forget it. I proceeded to drive the rest of the summer, and it drove fine. I did notice when I was on the highway, it drove great, and didn't seem to make any noise. In fact , this drives great on the highway, at consistent highway speeds really smoothly. Drives nice in town too, but I couldn't believe how easily it rolls down the highway. The tires are okay, the ones in front are good, the ones in back are okay. One is balding a bit, the other is decent. (4 extra higher profile tires go with it, with more aggressive grips). If I were keeping it, I would put two of those on the back in the winter , and leave the front ones alone. ABS light is on, but this is common, and in no way affects the braking. I had another Ranger and my mechanic said this is common in these, and without spending a bunch of money, just leave it alone. This has a new battery and I had a new differential cap put on shortly after I got it. It was in the front seat beside me, so I think that was a hint, and sure enough, it was needed to be put on. Underneath, it looks better than average, way better. Guy told me it was rhinoed, and may explain why minimal rust. Cab is pretty clean, radio works, as does CD player. Heater works good. Registered and inspection all done at first of summer. It had a new windshield put in before I got it, looks great. All in all, wonderful little truck, and truck bed by the way, very nice shape. Had been given the cover treatment, and underneath, as some flaking off, is really good condition. Doesn't burn oil or drip oil, which is real nice. I put Mobil 1 in shortly after I got it and it looks good and up to level. You'll be suprised how good this little baby runs. That is not in some way prettied up for a picture. I want to be clear, this is well worth the reserve, which is not far off, and someone will have a pretty decent truck with a few minor issues and a 4X4 to go with it as well as an additional set of tires. There is no A/C, but a good heater. You will enjoy this truck for whatever you have need of it. I would feel very confident in heading down the freeway to another state with no problem. Happy bidding!
