Vehicle Detail
This is a great driver with right at 131,000 miles on it. I bought this when it was a couple years old and have had it ever since. It has a great drive and ride with fresh tires and brakes. Had a couple babies and we decided a mini van would better serve our needs. I drove this vehicle every day for years but have inherited the wife's Montego premier. I towed an 18ft Bayliner boat maybe 20 times total on fishing trips within Indiana. That is the hardest work this explorer has done. About 3 year ago I had the rear end rebuilt by Matt's Garage and Mosier Engineering (racing fans know of who I speak) both of Portland Indiana. The rebuild included new rear springs and shocks. I would confidently drive this vehicle to anywhere the road will take me. This vehicle was regularly serviced in fact the Goodyear next to my office would compliment me on the way I took care of her. I replaced the plug wires, plugs, fuel filter, and air filter at about 105,000 mi. The battery seems good I think I am on the second replacement since purchase of the vehicle. I would typically get between 16-19 mpg, but on highway trips as good as about 22 mpg. The 4 liter V6 is a wonderful engine, The overdrive transmission shifts smooth. Tilt and cruise work great. This vehicle has a factory tow package. Interior is in good shape. The carpet is good and the leather seats are in good shape. Still comfy leather seats with no rips or tears. The cd and radio are good and sound great. Problems: Nothing of great concern for reliability, but you be the judge. I have not had this vehicle in 4 wheel drive for years. I think it is mechanically fine but it will not go into 4 wheel drive that I can tell. Might just be a fuse because the switch does not light up. If this is a problem for someone let me know what to check and I will check it. If you are really looking for a 4 wheel drive this might be the right one because like I said the guts of the system have not done any work. I do remember when it first stopped working in the middle of a snow storm their was a spark at the electric motor that puts the 2 front wheels in gear. I didnt really care as I learned to drive on old rear wheel drive vehicles and even our winters did'nt get me stuck. The only other thing that I can think of that is wrong with the vehicle is the rear drivers side window has the clip broken that connect the two ends of the cable for the electric window assembly. In other words the window motor is fine the clip that connect it to the window is broken. She runs fine on 87 but I would stay away from lower grades of fuel. I have had 1 accident in the vehicle where I smacked the rear end of a vehicle squarely (less than 5 mph) and I hit a deer once. The front grill had to be replaced both times. The air bags have never deployed. The body work was done by Armstrong's in Portland Indiana, someone who does it right in my opinion. I have driven it for years afterword and noticed no defects or problems. I also go to church with Mr. Armstrong so he has to see me every Sunday. Do not know what else to tell you, got a question email me through ebay.
