This is a Classic 1968 Volkswagen Bay Window Bus. It is a very desirable, solid, early, low-light, deluxe, walk-thru, passenger model. It has all of the original deluxe chrome trim and window moldings throughout. The interior has the usually missing middle seat along with the rear seat as well. It has many rare and one year only transitional parts. As you probably know 1968 was the first year of the Bay Window Bus. This deluxe was originally sold in October of 1967 in Portland Oregon at Riviera Motors. Considering the shipping time from Germany this Bus must be one of the very first Bay Windows to roll off the assembly line. This Bus is my daily driver and has been a very dependable ride. Please contact me if you would like additional pics of any areas of concern. I will try my best to answer all questions. ** FULL LENGTH METAL ROOF RACK NOT INCLUDED IN SALE! ** PROS: 1. Newer and more powerful 1600cc dual port engine. (starts up on a dime every time.) 2. Engine compression test was excellent at 150lbs on all 4 cylinders. (Engine end play is within spec also.) 3. Wipers work great. (New wiper motor and switch.) 4. Headlights, dome lights, signals, and emergency flashers work good. (New expensive special 68 flasher relay.) 5. Taillights work great. New tail light assemblies on both sides with new lenses. (No more loose connections.) 6. Basically the entire electrical system is working fine in and out. 7. New Brakes, including shoes, all wheel cylinders, replaced all 4 rubber brake lines. INSTALLED NOS GERMAN ( RARE & EXPENSIVE! ) EARLY 1968 ONLY, emergency brake cables. 8. Very dry/solid body for the year. The body and interior is in driver condition and must be gone thru to be perfect. Even though it is not a show vehicle it turns heads daily and gets great compliments and thumbs up everywhere it goes. 9. Tinted windows make it much cooler inside during the summer and add privacy. (tint can easily be removed if desired.) 10. Very good tread on tires. 11. Good strong battery. 12. Brand NEW BOSCH Generator! CONS: 1. The transmission whines slightly more than I would like, however the shifter is not excessively sloppy, it easily goes into all gears normally, and it never pops out of any gear. This is not an immediate need, but keep it in mind for future maintenance. If this worries you, to ease your mind, free of charge, I will include a good used original 3-rib transmission with the Bus for the new buyer/owner. I won't install it (unless you pay more $$$). But it will be included along with the Bus. I have a couple extras stocked up like most seasoned Volkswagen enthusiasts. 2. The gas gauge works intermittently. My intentions were to check it out when I swapped out the trans. (easier to get to the gas tank to check the fuel gauge sender.) 3. The stereo needs to be hooked up. It's in the dash but not connected or wired up. OVERALL A LOT MORE PROS THAN CONS! The Bus is located in beautiful Hilo, Hawaii (The Big Island) but has only been in the Islands for less than a year. Initial $500.00 dollar PayPal deposit required within 48 hours from auctions end. The remaining balance is due within 7 days. Shipping will be paid by the buyer. Shipping cost to the US mainland will be $1072.00. Shipping to the other Hawaiian Islands costs $200-250. I will help the new owner make shipping arrangements and drop off of the vehicle at the dock. The reason I am selling is because I want to buy another camper. I regrettably sold my Westy a while back and miss it now. This Bus is a good solid driver. If it was a camper I would not sell it.
