Vehicle Detail
This is a really nice 1971 Karmann Ghia coupe. It was completely restored and won "Best Paint" award and 2nd in the Semi-Custom Ghia class at the Northwest Volkswagen Club show in 1986 (I have the magazine articles). That was 25 years ago and since then, time has attacked it a bit, but it wouldn't take much to get it back to show condition. The body is great and structurally sound and the paint is a beautiful white with blue pearl coat but some surface rust is starting to crack the paint in places (see pictures). The car runs and rides great. It has a 1650cc engine, dual Weber carbs, Monza exhaust, 4 speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter, new alternator, new brakes including new master cylinder, front disc calipers and rear wheel cylinders and new tires. It's pretty fast. The steering is nice and tight. The suspension is a little rough and could probably use new shocks. It has an adjustable front beam that's been lowered. All the electrical stuff works except for the turn signal switch and the right front turn signal light. I put a toggle switch under the dash to run the turn signals, and intended to order and replace the switch and the light, but sadly, just never got around to doing it. The heat exchangers work well and are in good shape but the linkage is broken...again, never got around to it. As I said, with a little work, this could be one really nice car. I've just got too many other hobbies and this car needs to belong to someone who appreciates it.
