1964 Galaxie 500 “R Code” 427 4 Speed Dual Quad 425hp + True Low Mileage Survivor 75279 Original Miles final Listing at a new lower reserve and or a buy it now. I am now offering my 1964 Galaxie 500 R code for auction. I will tell you, my description will correctly describe this car. I have over the past several years, offered a select few of my vehicles here on eBay. All of which have sold. This being said, I have received a 100% feedback doing so, and plan on maintaining that level following the sale of this car. My listing, along with detailed pictures and video links should eliminate any and all possibilities for disappointments upon your reception of this Galaxie. I would encourage you to ask questions if you have them, either via messages, email, or the two phone #’s at the end of the listing. Please refer to the bottom of the listing to note any additions or updates to the listing as it proceeds. Most notably, I will be posting 2 videos within the first day of the auction highlighting both the topside of the R Code and the second, showing the underbody. I will post these links in the listing revisions for you to access at the bottom of this ad as soon as I can have my son show me how to do it. :-) Here are the links: http://youtu.be/HKAdc6KNSa8 http://youtu.be/Dn0qFfNT3Bc Introduction As mentioned, this is a 1964 Galaxie 427 R code. For those of you that are car people and more so, Ford people, I’m sure you have more knowledge of this particular car than me, but I will definitely tell you what I know. The car is a piece of Ford Racing history. Most everyone knows about the famed 427 Side Oiler Thunderbolts offered to a select 117 race car teams, obviously for the purpose of racing. Ford offered to the public their option for a factory built race car. This R Code is 1 of approximately 2500 Galaxie 500’s offered with the 427 Center Oiler Dual Quad backed by the Borg & Warner big spline T10 4 speed transmission, linked to the rear wheels via a 4:10 ratio rear axle. Horse power estimates were 425 hp, but was later proven, these engines put out quite a bit more. There are many internet accounts of these cars, with the addition of slicks some minor tweeking, turning quarter mile times in the 12’s or less. These cars were tough to find even when they were new. Now, after 47 years of racing wrecks, inclement weather and poachers cutting these cars up to build roundy-round cars, there even harder to come by. That is why I was blown away to come across this car in it’s basically original condition. Here is what I know. The car was purchased in Grand Rapids, Michigan by a gentleman living in Grandville Mi, a local suburb. I purchased this Galaxie from this gentleman’s son. Following purchase, the car was basically a daily driver slash weekend drag car for this man and his son, through an estimated late 1960’s. This is when the car was handed down to his son to drive to high school…What! Can you imagine being 16 or 17 being handed the keys to this car. It’s true. In fact, the parking permit for Grandville High School is still in the rear window. See picture. Between 67 and 69, I know the 427 had to be pulled for a while to be fixed. For a short period, a 390 was installed for it to be driven. The 427 was reinserted and the car was put in storage with 73224, following the last oil change in June 1974, when his father took sick. It is worth noting, many of the miles showing on the Odometer are towed miles. This is due to the fact the father installed a bracket under the front bumper to accommodate a tow bar. I have this tow bar, and will go to the new owner. I digress, but please take a look at the 1967 oil sticker, in the inspection section, for smog devises. The mechanic had a sense of humor. It listed mileage a 50109, air filter “ok”, alignment “bad”, tune up, “good” and smog devises “HA HA”…thought that was funny. Any how, the car was put away for more that 30 years. The son did have intensions of putting the car back on the road, and did drive it a bit after installing a new gas tank, the Thunderbolt hood and giving the car a tune a few years back, raising the mileage to closer to what is now of 75279 miles. As with many in recent years, he ran into financial difficulty. He offered the car for sale and I purchased it nearly a year ago. To say the least, I was in awe. After purchasing, living about 45 miles away, I drove the car home for the first time. That’s the history as laid before me. How about the car’s condition. Condition and Details Well, the car remains basically a stock R Code Galaxie. I didn’t mention it, but I purchased the car in it’s original paint. The faded factory inspection sticker is still in the windshield. The car was and is, super solid as it was not driven in the winter. There were the expected dings, small dents and scratches and very minor corrosion extreme lower rear quarters. Interior was original with exception of aftermarket gauges and a couple small cracks in the dash. Underside is solid. Floors and trunk, drop downs all solid. The only rust to mention is a cross bracket for mounting the forward part of the gas tank. When the son installed the new tank, he installed a new bracket fashioned from 1“ stock. You can see this in pictures and also a video I will include a link to, in the body of this listing. The rest of the underbody is rock sold, not even a weak spot. There was, as you would expect some oxidation on the frame and suspension parts, but no scaling or rot of any kind. Engine obviously ran good buy not great when purchase with a very sub-par exhaust system. Brakes and other systems were good. With the above list, I thought I would decide to sell the car as it was. Although there was considerable interest, as you would expect, most were concerned with costs to restore or freshen the car. So, I decided to do this, as I knew the car needed minimal effort to make it the car it should be. Here’s what I have done. Freshening I say freshening. The car wasn’t “restored”. The car was really great as it was but I understood what most peoples concerns were. They were not sure about a motor that stood idle for 30 years, how much would the body need, painting cost and interior. Buying a car online with these questions can be daunting I understand. I have asked the same questions. In order to put everyone’s mind at rest, the following was completed. Motor and driveline 1. The motor was pulled. I did this as I had concerns with gaskets and various other items you can be worried about Not a motor you want to break, being the correct one. I had a local rod shop tear it down, taking care to make note of items needing work, and component #’s. There were signs this engine was balanced and blueprinted with chamfered oil galleys and balance crank, ect. It looked nearly new. We had hardened seats installed and a long list of wear items put in new, with receipts to assure a correct final package. Noteable #’s are these: A. Motor C3AE-6015-1 B. Heads C3AE-H C. Intake C3AE-9425-J D. Carbs are not original, I do have one original that will go with the car . E. Pistons C3AE611044 F. Piston Rods C3A1 G. Radiator C4AE8005 H. Trans C4ARN I. Harmonic B. C2AE J. Rear Axle WCN-4 K. 4:11 Gear 3LA 45 L. Distributor C3AF-12127-AE 3EC Motor is perfect and sounds great to with a complete new Flowmaster exhaust, including X-pipe. Very smooth and throaty. I chose to have a new heavy duty clutch, complete with new bearings, throw-out and pilot. Trans is great. The car is double cooled with a engine fan as well as an electric fan. Engine runs very cool. This car runs, drives, stops and sounds great. The Body and New paint As mentioned the body was extremely solid. It did have a very minimal rust at the very bottom of each rear quarter. I purchased new quarters from blue oval industries to assure fit, and cut in the bottom 6 inches up going from bumper to wheel well, having them metal finished and sealed front and back. Other than small dings and scratches, that’s the extent of the bodywork. I have several pics showing this process for verification along with receipts. And, as you can see, following the bodywork, the car was painted its original color, jet black. I looks really great. I would rate the paint as a really great driver quality even without a final buffing out. You will see in pics. Trim and bright work is original to the car. It is I very nice condition. Will mention a ding in the rear taillight trim about the size of dime. Both bumpers have some minor pitting. Average driver quality. With the rest of the car’s condition, I would probably replace or have the originals redone. Just me. Interior No stories here. Interior has a little patina, but is better than average original condition. Really looks nice. The dash had several small cracks and those were professionally fixed by a local interior specialist. He was so impressed with the final results, he took pics and to use as a training tool. The carpet is nice, seats are darn nice for being original as well as the headliner. The glass is all original as you would expect. Windshield does have a couple chips that have been repaired. Interior trim is in very nice condition. Conclusion I think, although long winded, gives you a really good idea of what you getting for your money. Couple this with all the detailed pics and video, there I’m sure is little gray area. Ultimately, this car is very hard to come by, very nice original 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 427 “R Code” with a 4 Speed. Last weekend, the Hot Rod power tour came to our town. I didn’t attend as I had to work. But, somehow, I had several of the attendees get wind of this car and come looking to see it. I guess I just couldn’t fathom the importance of the car. That is until recently. The group that made the trek north to come see my car was impressed to say the least, even giving one group with young sons a ride. There were some wide eyes during that ride, I can assure you. There were some that had a lot more knowledge than me that were very complementary. Biggest comment was they were surprised the 427 was still in it, and even more surprised it was the correct center oiler as many of these cars received transplanted side oilers following their original engine’s demise. Ok, enough already. I’ll talk about this all day if I don’t stop here. To sum up, the car is pinnacle of Ford Muscle, it’s original for the most part, at least the important parts, has low miles and I have taken care of all of previous prospective concerns prior to this listing. It’s the real deal, and have described it accurately and truthfully. I encourage you to bid accordingly. Please call if you have questions. Ask for Kirk 231 206-5258 or Kurt 231 578-2887. Please read my disclosures. Disclosures Yeah, I know nobody likes them but here they are. This car is still a 47 years old car and therefore is being sold as-is, where-is with no warranty. Buyer is responsible for the pickup or shipping of this vehicle although I will help in way I can in the arraignments with you. I have made every effort to disclose every good and bad point of this Original 64 Galaxie 427 R Code, but I am sure I may have missed some of both. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the car is for sale now and my goal obviously is to sell the car at least by the end of the auction.
