Vehicle Detail
I am selling, with regret, my beautiful 1978 Porsche 911 Targa. It is a real looker and garners much attention (if you're into that thing, and I am not) from other drivers. It drives beautifully with delicate steering, supple ride and handling, and good gears and great clutch. With the Targa roof removed the sound is spectacular. I am selling it for one reason and one reason only, I purchase a 964 and cannot have both (bought the 964 because my 5 year old son can only ride in a car with a 3-point seat belt and my wife doesn't like me driving a car without an air bag). I will be as honest as possible and list all the great things and equally, will inform all about any negative things (at least, all I know). This car is wonderful and I love the experience but it is over 30 years old so it is not without faults. The car has been well maintained with regular oil changes and engine work. Repairs and upgrades over the past 5 years include: New Leather Interior (one of the nicest you'll ever see); New Windshield; new headlights (H4); New Tires (they are brand new); New Fuch's Wheels; Rebuilt Top End (pistons, crank, cams (at 174,000 miles); New Shocks; Rear Brake Calipers; New Brake Pads (front); New Brake Master Cylinder; Replaced Breather Hose; Reposition Rocker Shafts; Valve Adjust; Check Clutch (perfect); Adjust Length of Plug Wires; Adjust Timing; Install Pop-Off valve; new stereo with ipod connectivity; and finally, repair oil leak in breather area (engine removal required). I have thousands of dollars in receipts that go with car. All work I have had done has been with John Walker, a well known Seattle area Porsche (air cooled) mechanic. The Good: Car looks great (10 feet and further away paint looks exceptional (paint is original, I believe)); ride height gives aggressive stance (professionally adjusted); NO RUST; clean car inside and out; very strong engine, great clutch, beatiful leather interior (with power seats that actually work), all interior gauges work (including the clock!), new stereo with ipod connectivity (includes video screen - you can watch movies in car); new wheels (no marks) and tires (Firestone). The Bad: Although the paint looks great from 10 feet and is original, the front hood does show small rock chips and minor scuffs (clearly a driver's car); front spoiler has minor damage (repairable or purchase a new front spoiler and paint (they are about $174 on ebay)); minor door ding in driver's door (unable to photo graph well as not visible from some angles);A/C needs recharging and heater was removed by previous owner (I'm guessing because they work poor and this car probably didn't get driven in the winter!). Targa top as a 1/4 inch tear which is barely visible, fits well but wind noise is audible at speed (but not bad). Although I attempted to fix all oil leaks there is one oil leak on the passenger side of the engine. I forgot to ask John Walker to fix it (and he didn't see it). It only leaks after a longish drive and only drips 1-2 drops. The drops of oil settle on the heat exchangers and burn off within a few minutes of driving the next time. Seemingly a very minor issue but of course, worth mentioning. I welcome questions and if you would like to personally see the car let me know. If it is raining, I cannot allow a test drive (sorry) - never drive this in the wet so won't start now. Will work with buyer to transport. Will add more photos later of engine and front compartment. I am listing this vehicle at a reasonable price, with no reserve. Additionally, I have a very realistic "buy-it-now" price as I am a busy guy and forfeiting some money for a quick purchase is worth it for me. Finally, I am selling locally also and reserve the right to end the auction early. On Jul-04-11 at 15:30:02 PDT, seller added the following information: I have added a youtube video in response to some questions: Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7vY5ej0vQg&feature=youtube_gdata
