Vehicle Detail
For auction is a 1968 Chevrolet C-10 truck. This is a base model for that year with only a few options such as heavy duty rear springs and RV style mirrors. It is equipped with the 307 / 200HP V-8 and three speed manual transmission. The truck was built in Atlanta and has spent it's life in this area. I have documentation showing it being sold to the city of Jonesboro in late 1967. It was bought for the fire department and stayed in service there for almost 30 years. It was auctioned in 1996 with about 20,000 miles on it. I bought it in 2007 with 32,000 miles and it had recently had front and rear brakes done, a heavy duty clutch and bearing and a towing receiver fabricated and installed. The truck still has the original paint which is faded and worn. The interior is very good and the seat has been professionally recovered with a heavy grade vinyl. Seat belts are intact and original. Glass is all good with no chips or cracks. Instrumentation is standard and in working condition. Heater and blower work like they should. Electrics are all working except for the windshield washer pump. Floor mat was replaced with heavy rubber reproduction mat. Transmission was originally a three speed on the column and has been converted to a nice working floor shift set-up. The engine starts easily and runs very good. It uses some oil but does not smoke. I believe the valve stem seals are the cause as engine compression is very good and it runs strong with a load. I cannot find any numbers but think the rear differential is a 3.73 (common with the 307) and the truck pulls very well. The body is rust free with the exception of some very light surface rust here and there. The cab corners, rocker panels, door sills, floor panels and kick panels are all very solid. The bed is in good, straight condition as well. There are some clean holes drilled in the bed where some service / tool boxes were mounted while in the fire service. There are also some small holes in the A-pillars and center of the roof where some emergency lighting was previously installed. These holes have been sealed for weatherproofing. The truck spent most of it's life inside as is evident by the lack of rust. The exterior does have some minor dings, dents and creases as might be expected, but should be straightforward work for a competent body man. Recent work includes all three u-joints and carrier bearing, new battery and heater hoses. The tires are Dunlops and have about 20,000 miles on them. The factory screw type jack is included and in working condition. The truck currently has about 53,000 miles and is registered and being driven regularly. I would not hesitate to take this truck over long distances. It handles well and gives a comfortable ride. Most of these old Chevrolets are rusted through at the lower parts of the body. This truck is very solid throughout. The reserve price has been lowered. Restore or drive and enjoy as is.... Truck will come with some documents and receipts. Truck will be sold as is and without warranty. A bill-of-sale will be provided. Buyer is responsible for picking up vehicle or other shipping arrangements. If sold, a pay pal deposit of $250.00 is required at auction end and the balance by USPS money order or cash within seven days. Thank you.
