Vehicle Detail
1986 Mercedes Benz 300 SDL Diesel engine...auto trans. App. 358,000...But still runs and drives great!!!!!!!!!!! Tires great....opinion, but thinking 70%. I have been running straight B100 homebrew in this car since I bought it. Turn the key to the glowplug...let it cycle...hit the key and it pops right off. I changed the oil when I got it and so far I have not needed to add more oil. I bought this car from a friend at work. The story he got from the dealer when he bought it was that it belonged to a traveling salesman, hence all the miles...'assuming' mostly highway miles. Body was straight and great when he got it, but he hit 2 deer on the way home from work one night. You can see the repairs he did in the pictures...Passenger side, front. He replaced the fender, radiator, and other necessary parts...but did not change the hood. When he slammed on the brakes trying to avoid the deer hit, the front brake rotors were damaged and was obvious when you applied the brakes. I think he got tired of it when trying to redo the front brakes and offered it to me. I bought it and had new rotors and brake work done on the front. Stops like it should...straight. No pulling any direction. This is a 25 year old midwest car. It does have some minor cancer, but overall, it is in good, solid condition. I have been driving this for the past few months...have put app 3000 miles on it...and love driving this car!! And...enjoy driving this car so much I found the same year and model with less than 100,000, and I bought it. Of course it is in excellent condition. That is the only reason I am selling this car...I don't need 2 of these. This is a used car with a lot of miles on it, but still runs and drives great. Many of these go 500,000 miles....and more. It is an excellent work car! To the obvious 'flaws' with the car: I think the original owner was a big person....drivers seat spring/support is soft...I am a big guy also....I just think the seat should be firmer. Overall condition of the interior is better than good, I think...especially for a car this age. Electric seats do work...as does the sun roof...and the windows. Door seals seem nice and tight...don't hear and wind coming through. The ride....It does ride nice, but I think it feels a bit too soft. Worn shocks and struts? I don't know if they have ever been changed out. It doesn't bang on bumps...I just think it feels a bit spongy. Transmission..it does have a small leak. I was going to get tranny serviced and hoped it is just the pan gasket. I won't g et this done before I sell it. The tranny works well, but does seem to shift into next gear a bit hard sometimes. The cruise control works went it chooses to. A/C does not blow cold...as simple as a recharge? I don't know. The engine runs great...starts great. It does idle rough for about the first 20 seconds or so...then it purrs. Only issue I see or hear is a whining noise at the front of the motor. Previous owner thought it is power steering pump and bought a new filter. It will come with the car...I simply haven't had time to change it...and car performs great...whining noise is just an annoyance. I estimated the mileage....I think it is still under 357k now. I will continue to drive it until I go after my new one...week or two....or until it sells. I will be upfront and honest if any issues arise. The radio: Becker...it is there, but not working. My friend bought the radio from a salvage yard because original was missing. the original owner had Siruis or XM radio. My friend learned after he installed the radio that it would need to be taken to a MB dealer and 'coded' in for the car. I have just been using Sirius radio through my phone. Not the greatest sound quality, but it works for me. This would be a great SVO or WVO car. Or...continue burning homebrew in it...or you could always go back to burning nasty petrodiesel. My experience with this car so far makes me confident to drive it anywhere. I sincerely believe there are PLENTY of miles left in this car. This car will NOT be detailed. It will be freshly washed and vacuumed. I think it will clean up pretty well. Buyer can pick this up or I can deliver short distance for a fee. I will require a $500 non-refundable deposit before I transport it. This car is sold AS / IS !! No guarantees...no warranties...expressed, written or implied. Please ask questions!! On Jun-24-11 at 05:55:26 PDT, seller added the following information: When I got this car, it had some minor fuel leakage on and around the injector pump and fuel lines. I took it out to my well qualified diesel guy and he replaced some lines and whatever else was necessary to stop the leaks.
