And indeed having a Delorean is truly like being a Rock Star among many other noted attributes. Though known as an exotic car — its body was sheathed in unpainted stainless steel, not unlike a kitchen sink — the DeLorean was unique as a performance car. Its engine, a 2.8-liter V-6 developed jointly by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo (known as the PRV6) was too flaccid to rival any Ferrari. It went from zero to 60 miles an hour in 8.8 seconds, slower than a Mazda RX-7 at the time. “Back to the Future” definitely helped the car rise above to iconic status. Along the way it has not lost any luster or following since the series of movies or production. This particular DeLorean was purchased by an ex-Marine who bought the car from a Delorean certified dealership brand new and drove it down I-95 from Long Island, New York to his retirement home here in Saint Augustine, Florida. It ran like a charm with every gear humming and nearly every driver along side admiring. Along the way this gentleman suffered a series of health issues that prevented him from giving the car his full attention. In the glove box I found receipts where he installed an updated A/C conversion system and a new Pioneer sound system. He drove the car as recent as 2009 on weekends but his health gradually went down hill there after as far as we can surmise. The car was parked in his garage unused and rather sad until he passed away this past spring. Presently the car try’s to turn over but does not start. As you can see from the photographs provided the Delorean needs complete restoration. I don’t think it needs rotisserie chicken restoration... but restoration nerveless. There is no way you could drive the car home if you won her in our auctions. That being said the tires are quite expensive with plenty of tread left. They appear new~ Cooper Cobra’s in the rear. You will not have to buy tires. Without question I could tell this gentleman loved this car. He did not like it… (He loved it). When he was operating the car he changed the oil religiously. He had planned to have the interior completely restored here locally,But life and circumstances got in the way. The stainless steel body was carefully polished and in many respects the car was hugged every night.
