This car is indeed gorgeous but far from being perfect. The previous owner of the car was a fine gentleman and ex-Marine from Long Island,New York who retired here in St. Augustine and brought this car among the other two listed presently in my auctions. He recently passed away and I am selling the cars on behalf of the family administrator. I am not a dealer but a fine estate broker. This Thunderbird was maintained well by the owner mechanically but does have cosmetic problems that are shown in the photographs, including several scratches that appear to have been repaired by himself or a quasi body man. There is also a small section of the front nose panel that needs to be placed back in and secured. This has also been shown in the photographs provided. I would assume that most if not all the cosmetic damage was the result of later health issues that adversely affected his ability to drive correctly resulting in these consistent types of issues. Mechanically I had the car professionally examined by a licensed mechanic and they noted the following for future or needed repair: serpentine belt, both outer tie-rod ends and possible minor oil pan gasket replacement. Which would be consistent with the miles this gentleman drove the car. The engine runs strong and the transmission shifts as it should and the engine compartment is naturally clean. The car brakes on a Mercury dime. The A/C is ice cold and the only issue we found in the interior was the dimmer switch needs to be replaced. It works sometimes… sometimes it does not. The driver’s side door lock does not lock or unlock with the transmitter key all the time. Not quite certain what is causing this issue? I had a new $100.00 battery installed and had the car thoroughly gone over with various test. Other noted damages are the wide chrome trim that surrounds the windshield, In particular on the driver’s side where the chrome has started to bubble up which is an issue with these models. This bubbling on the chrome is likely a result of living near the ocean. Or perhaps Long Island winters? The driver’s side chrome trim is perfect. Keep in mind while in Florida this car was always painstakingly garaged. The radio and cd player function as they should. Given this gentleman’s age I don’t believe he was playing the radio or cd player very often or listening to off-color music. We had an issue with the front passenger wheel were the tire was not holding air because of rim bead seal issues. We had the rim professionally sanded down three times and resealed to correct the situation. *Though let me stress you may be looking at getting a new wheel if this problem continues. The chrome wheels are over-all in decent to very good shape with the only the rear drivers side wheel showing flaking. They could use a good elbow grease detailing to make them really stand out. I have taken the car up and down 1-95 here in St. Johns County with certified technicians on test runs and it operates straight with no issues and is quite strong. I’m surprised how many folks stop and let me know how beautiful this car is when we were testing her. With that triple black combo this car certainly makes an already timeless design vogue and regal. Despite the number of scratches one really has to point them out to get them noticed. Cosmetically you can get this car up to showroom condition without breaking the bank. Or just live with it,enjoy it and ignore it. Mechanically you could get all the suggested issues corrected over time while driving and enjoying the car. I tend to be critical when offering my opinion of a car and this one is no exception. Some of you may ask if you could fly in and drive this car home? Yes you likely could, from Florida to California to our coast to your coast with no problems. But I personally would advise against it. I would correct the issues first.
