Vehicle Detail
This truck is re-listed as a result of omissions and mistakes on my part. I’ve added two photos of the bottom of the doors, and more info regarding the mechanics of the truck. This auction includes the1928 Model A Ford Roadster Pickup, completely rebuilt and never run Model B performance engine, modified F-100 steering box parts, custom side view mirror, custom one of a kind luggage trunk, and either set of wheels and tires - original 21” or the 16” as pictured (not both) - all to complete an awesome back to the basics Rat Rod. This 1928 roadster pickup was completely refurbished and finished in 2003. For detailed photos of the process check out the September / October 2005 issue of “The Restorer” magazine. All body panels fit well as seen in the photos. All new wood was used, including floor panel wood which fits perfectly. New interior material was installed. Quarter panels are solid with the rear panel, not soft as with 90% of the ones I’ve seen on the road. As seen in the photos the bodywork was meticulously done. This is full disclosure sheet metal, no body fillers or paint to cover up bad bodywork. This is Rat Rod show quality. The engine in the truck is a 1963 Sears rebuild as noted by the tag on the side of the engine. The radiator fan has been modified and strengthened with the metal overlay designed by Russell Baetke. (The Restorer magazine, March / April, 1997) Transmission was rebuilt with excellent original gears with new bearings and shafts, and doesn’t jump out of gear. Steering parts are all rebuilt with new spindle bolts and bushings, steering arm balls pressed in and welding on, new Teflon inserts, steering box rebuilt including sector shaft grease seal, and pitman arm shortened one inch. This Roadster pickup steers better than any stock Model A I’ve driven. Windshield and side windwings are safety glass. Top irons are original with older replaced top material, patched in places. Wire harness was new when installed. Gas tank is clean inside with no sealer used. The truck has its original 6 volt system and the battery is good. Door signs were painted on by a local artist. Custom trailer hitch assembly was installed as seen in the photo. The performance B engine has the so called C factory counterweighted crankshaft, Bill Stipe performance camshaft and his lightened and balanced flywheel and V8 pressure plate. Engine was sleeved back to standard with new pistons, rings, new modern valves and guides, new tappets, hardened inserts, new timing gears, deck surfaced, all new babbit, believed to be one of a kind high performance cylinder head with Brumfield grade 8 studs and nuts. The intake manifold is custom made to accept the rebuilt Stromberg 97 carburetor pictured. The manifold will need to be finished, surfaced, and linkage assembled. The distributor is stock Model B with new bushings installed (needs to be modified for full advance). The engine stand pictured is included. (rags and towels to protect the engine were removed for the photos) The F-100 steering box parts includes everything you’ll need to finish the job - the custom made end plate to retain grease and accept the Model A light switch body, welded F-100 / Model A steering shaft, bearings, gaskets, and two F-100 sector shafts ready to be square machined to accept the Model A pitman arm. Luggage trunk is one of a kind custom made specifically for this Model A Ford pickup truck box with all metal construction. Welded and riveted, it was designed to look exactly like an original accessory item. 16” wheels are in nice condition, with older tires and decent tread. The spare tire is worn. Whitewalls on the pavement are the fake strap on type used in the 50’s and 60’s. 21” wheels turn true and four are in nice condition with newer tubes and tires with excellent tread, spare is older. One wheel is surface rusted with a bent spoke, but turns true. Brakes are original Model A Ford. Rear backing plates have new bushings installed and reamed for the service and parking brake. Brake cross shaft bearing surfaces were built up and machined with new bronze bushings and grease fittings installed. Pedal bushings and pedal shaft were replaced. New linings were installed on the emergency brake bands, and the emergency brake is solid and skids the tires. This truck runs and drives very well, although the 1963 rebuild engine is tired. I’ve put a few thousand miles on the truck and don’t see any reason why you couldn’t drive it home. The reserve is strong as it should be. This is a cash sale, no checks, money orders, etc. A down payment through Paypal would be accepted. Please pick up this vehicle within one week of the auction’s end. Please email with any questions, if you need to speak directly with me I‘ll include my phone number.
