Vehicle Detail
This bike is an incredible survivor. BMW manufactured the R4 model 1932-37. It was produced primarily for authority and off-road use. As a result, most of this model were severely abused and did not survive. BMW Group Classic verifies this motorcycle date of manufacture as July 6, 1935. Nearly seventy-six years later this bike is still together with matching numbers. I acquired this bike in 1994 and conducted a complete restoration over the next two years. It has been ridden literally ten miles since then. The engine pulled very strong and had plenty of low end torque. The carburetor runs lean and will need some fiddling to sort it out. I have enjoyed having this unique machine in my collection the past seventeen years. The time has come for someone else to enjoy it. I hope to look this good when I turn seventy-six years old. NIT PICKS: This bike has been garage-kept since restoration was completed, but time always wins and you will see evidence of that in the photos. All fasteners were replated, however a very few have oxidized with time. The kick start lever (correctly replated in nickel) has a small separation in the replate. The headlight reflector was not replated. The tires are checked. While likely appropriate for parade or rally fairground use they should be considered unsafe for road use. The headlight ring (replated in chrome) has a small imperfection. The speedometer/odometer is a unique rolling drum version and is not accurate.
