Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1960 TR-3A Roadster, VIN # TS74283 L, it's Ohio title lists it as a 1961. ( The car was sold new as a 1961, a common practice with foreign cars in the 60"s) I've owned this car since 1986, I've owned a number of British cars for the past 40 years. This car was stored in my garage all these years, with periodiac drives (just around the block) to keep everything "limbered up". My plan was that upon retirement I could work/play on all my collected "toys". 10 years later I realize I have too little space/time, and too many "toys". Therefore, I reluctantly admit, somthing has to go and it will be the TR-3A. FYI The NADA Blue Book Consumer Price for this car ranges from $10,350 (low retail), to $17,100 (average retail), to 33,709 (high retail). My reserve is about the average retail. I've tried to restore this car, keeping it as orginal as possible. It is a very straight, rust free, accident free, orginal TR-3A that you will find for the money. It's a lot of fun, and gets lot of attention. It is a 51 year old time machine!!! This car is equiped with its orginal 2 liter engine, 4 speed manual transmition, (no overdrive). It has front disc brakes, a heater, and wire wheels. Its recorded milage is 43,887, while this is a low milage car...it's not that low. The speedometer works , the odometer doesn't seem to. VEHICLE CONDITION Exterior When I bought the car in 1968, its exterior was passible. It had been restored years before and still looked good. It was orginally blue on blue. It was repainted when it was restored British Racing Green, with a black interior. I liked the darker BRG on my '69 TR-6 , so when I decided to repaint the 3, I choose the later BRG. It is a PPG base coat/clear coat , professionally applied. I removed the interior, all chrome, hood, doors, cowl, trunk, and spare tire cover. The fenders were unbolted and the fender beading was removed. All jams , and removed parts were painted on both sides. This cost me almost $2000. The underside of the car was not painted/rustproofed. This is somthing that can be done at your leasure, and you know what you have....nothing is being covered up. The car has a new Robbins' top (and the old top-only the windows are dark). A white tonneau cover (has a small hole by the steering wheel arch- easily repaired) The side curtains are in excellent shape with new plexaglass inserts. Its new chrome includes : fender beading (4), fender mirrors, head light rims, hinges, escutcherns, seals for the trunk and spare tire (door still needs some), tail light lens, and Dzus hood fasteners. The other orginal chrome parts are in good condition. Thus the body shows very well , not a show car ....but it has the potential. Interior As stated earlier the interior was orginally blue and a previous owner dyed it to black. It appears to be the orginal seat covers...51 years old. The seat bottom springs appear to be refreshed....the seats are very comfortiable. The carpets are new from the " Roadster Factory". The cockpit surrounds, door panels, jump seat, and other vinyl panels are in excellent condition. All gauges work. Also, the wipers, stop lights, running light, and wipers work. The turn signals and horn worked before the car was painted...I just need to find the right cimbination. The battery is relatively new. Frame and Sheet Metal The car's frame is solid . All floors , spare tire compartment, doors, hood and trunk are orginal and rust free. The battery box was replaced by a previous owner, and has a acid proof liner the rocker panels were replaced by a previous owner. Fenders, inter-fenders, look orginal, are straight and rust free. Mechanical The engine starts easily and runs strong. 70 lbs. of oil preasure @ 2000 rpm hot. All gears and the clutch work properly. The clutch has a new master & slave cylender, and hose. The engine has always been very strong. It has never smoked, but it does have a oil small leak. (I may have fixed this....Valve gasket was re-placed) All fluids have been flushed and replaced. The brakes have a new master cylender. The front calibers could use a rebuilding. The emergency brake works properly. The car needs to be driven and given sone TLC. Almost all water hoses were replaced with new orginal type clamps. The heater valve, hood prop, water over flow system, and motor mounts were replaced. The tires, Michelin X's, are like new with little wear. I've owned this car for 25 years, they were on the car when I bought it. Due to their age...they should be replaced. The wire wheels were put on by a previous owned. They are in excellent condition. The spare is a old 4 ply....good as a spare only. This car is an excellent example of a TR-3A. They are fun and challenging. You need to be somewhat "car crazy" to own a TR. This is a 51 year old British car, so obviously no warranty is implyed or offered, sold as is - no warranty.
