Vehicle Detail

For sale is a 1959 Triumph TR3A that could be a fun driver or a restoration project. VIN# TS63609L, Engine# 60241F, Body# EB61422 Mechanicals The engine starts easily and runs well. 70 lbs. oil pressure when hot. All gears and the clutch work properly. The water pump sometimes makes noise and will need to be replaced. The ignition system has received new points, plugs, condenser, rotor, distributor cap, plug wires and coil. The carburetors were rebuilt with new needle valves, gaskets and a new float in one. New fuel filter, oil filter and choke cable. The brakes work. The brake master cylinder was rebuilt but the front calipers should also be rebuilt. The rear slaves seem to work well . The tires are like new and show no real wear. The wheels are solid. The emergency brake works properly. There are no water leaks but the water hoses look ready for replacement. Interior The interior is red with white piping. The carpeting and seat upholstery are new (the seat upholstery alone is nearly $600 at Moss Motors), but the door panels and other interior vinyl covering is in fair to poor shape. Included is enough new red vinyl and white piping to redo the whole interior. The car has the optional adjustable steering wheel which has a sewn-on cover. The black plastic steering wheel rim underneath it is in fair condition, but usable. Some of the weather stripping around the door openings needs to be installed. Instruments & Electrics Except for the gas gauge, all the instruments work. Also, the wipers, horn, heater fan, turn signals and lights all work (although the low beam on the right side is burned out.) The battery is relatively new and holds a charge. Exterior It looks white in the photos, but it's actually Silverstone Gray, a Triumph color (car was originally red). The paint is not great - an amateur respray by a previous owner - and has some scratches and some dings. The car comes with a tonneau cover in good shape but could use some ‘elbow grease’ to clean it up. There is a convertible top frame that needs to have the strapping replaced. The convertible top itself is in pretty good condition aside from a mouse hole the size of a quarter just above the passenger side door that could be patched fairly easily I believe. The side curtains with frames are included, but they are rough and need to be rebuilt or replaced. The chrome varies: some pieces are good and others are showing minor rust or pitting here and there. The main chrome pieces (bumpers, windshield frames, hubcaps) could be used for a basic driver level car with a little work, as could the grill which does have some dings. It has an NOS OEM windshield (with the Triumph imprint in the corner) that is in excellent shape. A set of new fender beads is also included. Frame & Sheet Metal The car’s frame is solid. Both driver and passenger side floors have been completely replaced. The spare tire compartment floor is solid as are the doors, ‘bonnet’ and ‘boot’ lid. There is some rust under the battery. The trunk floor has some pin holes as well as rust on the left side where it meets the inner fender (it currently has a crude patch on it.) I think the trunk floor can be repaired rather than replaced. The outer rockers, fenders, front and rear panels, etc. have evidence of filler. The lower fenders have been repaired at some point as have the rear inner fenders. (The right front lower fender behind the wheel needs to be redone -see photos). Generally, the car is reasonably straight but as noted, it has some rust and filler that will obviously need attention if it’s to be fully restored. Additional photos including underneath and in the fender wells are available for viewing on Photobucket using this link: http://s1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd390/webmotors/1959%20TR3A/ Vermont is a non-title state for old cars, so bill of sale only. I do have the previous registration slip if you need that for your state in order to register it. I’ve tried to cover everything that I know about the car, good and bad, but feel free to contact me through ebay with any questions. I'm also available by phone - email your number and I'll call. Inspections encouraged. Thanks for looking! ($500 payment within 48 hours close of auction, balance due within 10 days. If it helps, I can store the car for a while at no charge.)
