1949 PACKARD SUPER DELUXE CONVERTIBLE VICTORIA Model: 2379 Super Deluxe Convertible Victoria Color: Turquoise Blue, Red Interior with Maize Leather Seat Trim Production: 685 units in 1949 23rd series production run Engine: 327 CI 8 Cylinder "L" Head, Rated at 150 HP, 2 Barrel Carburetor, Hydraulic Valves Wheel Base: 127", weight 4,530 lb. HISTORY: I acquired this car during 2002 in Austin, TX from an owner who had purchased 20 Packards from a closing Lousiana car museum and decided to re-sell all of them. That's all the history I know. Believe that the current mileage of 57,604 is probably correct. RESTORATION: An extensive mechanical restoration was completed during 2003 by an experienced Packard mechanic in Ventura, CA; and has been driven approximately 4,000 miles since then, mostly in Southern California. Restoration included: wiring harness, radiator rod out and new hoses, new gas tank, mechanical fuel pump, add electric fuel pump, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, heater motor, shocks, muffler, all hydraulic lines, hydraulic pump, window cylinders, generator, starter, all hoses, radio, clock, rebuild carburator. OPTIONS/FEATURES: 327 CI Straight 8 Cylinder Engine, Rated at 150 HP 3 Speed Manual Transmission with Over-Drive Hydraulic Operated Convertible Top, Windows, Seat Heater, Defroster, Fresh Air Ventilation AM Radio (works) and Clock (works) Egg Crate Style Grill and Cormorant Hood Ornament Wire Wheels and Newer Radial Tires Fog Lights and Dual Spot Lights As a member of the two international organizations, Packards International and The Packard Club, I have been a Packard collector, preserver, and enthusiast for many years. This car is rare and very expensive when new. I would describe it as an excellent "driver"; meaning that it is in TOP mechanical condition with older paint, nice (not perfect) chrome-stainless trim, partially restored interior (new seat coverings), no dents or dings. Under carriage, engine compartment, and trunk have not been detailed. Please look at all the photos and you will see that it is a great looking Packard. The car is dependable, solid, and a dream to drive: starts right up when engine is hot or cold and runs cool in hot weather. Everything works as it should including hydraulic windows, convertible top, and seat; fog lights, spot lights, heater, radio and even the clock. Engine runs smooth and quiet at 70 mph and tracks on a level road with one finger on the steering wheel (the best driving Packard I've ever owned). Good oil pressure. No leaks and doesn't burn oil. Clutch and 3 speed transmission operation are excellent. At 32 mph, the over-drive is energized and engages first time, every time, by just lifting your foot off the accelerator (over-drive improves mileage and puts transmission in free wheeling mode; around town in stop-go traffic you can disengage it). Always mechanically maintained more often than needed, and has received a complete tune-up in May-2011. Owner's manual included. Garaged in northwest Iowa at vacation home since 2006, where it is only driven 250 miles per year in the summer. We are selling the home and unfortunately need to part with the car. There is a VERY low starting bid and no reserve. Vintage CA license plates are not included. Will help coordinate the shipping of car. Perfect car for tour or just drive it and enjoy the experience of a 1949 luxury Packard, without worries of mechanical problems.
