Thanks to his efforts and uncanny knowledge of his clientele’s preferences, a small but formidable sports car company from Germany rose to prominence in America. Between 1948 and 1965, more than 76,000 Porsche 356s of all engine and body configurations were produced, and a sizable number of them were exported to the key US market. Throughout its existence, the 356 underwent a thorough and systematic process of improvement, a hallmark of Porsche’s renowned engineering that continues to this day. The Porsche horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine was unflappable and the suspension, long since refined and perfected, had rendered the 356’s handling characteristics nearly perfect. Meanwhile, construction had matured until fit, finish and function set the standard to which other manufacturers strived. Making its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 1959, the 356B had an updated body style with changes made to improve comfort, handling and drivability, although the available engine options remained unchanged. In 1962, 356B coupes incorporated the “T-6” body type, which most notably featured a squared-off front hood opening, an enlarged engine cover with two distinctive cooling grilles, and a revised roofline due to a the use of a larger windshield and rear window, as well as a relocated gas filler opening. The Burt Collection presents this outstanding example of the 356B. The subject of restoration by the previous owner which included a very fine paint job and restored interior, the car runs 100%, and is a striking light gray color. The previous owner added Super 90 hubcaps - but please note - this is not a Super 90. There is no radio in the car. She runs out 100%. Smooth and quiet with great brakes and recent tires. The pictures tell the story. A thorough restoration was performed - but as with all restorations, they never stay perfect, I would say that this restoration has held up well but is approximately 5 years old.
